
Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Brown baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Kennesaw State on Saturday, 2-0 and 8-0, as the two teams continued a four-game series at Stillwell Baseball Stadium.

Brown fell to 3-8 on the season, while Kennesaw State improved to 9-6 overall.

Game 1: Kennesaw St. 2, Brown 0 (7 Innings)
Brown outhit Kennesaw by a 5-4 margin in the opener but the Owls took advantage of three errors to claim the 2-0 victory. Rich Ciufo (Medford, N.Y.) led the way offensively with a pair of hits, while the Bears drew six walks.

Collin Garner (St. Augustine, Fla.) went all six innings and allowed two unearned runs in the loss, adding one walk with five strikeouts. Ryan Kennedy tossed five scoreless innings in the win before Monty Horn went two frames for the save.

After Alex Carballo crossed the plate on a groundout in the first, the Bears threatened with the bases loaded in the top of the second, but Kennedy came up with the two-out strikeout keep the visitors off the board.

Ciufo and Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) had back-to-back hits in the top of the third before Kennedy escaped once again with consecutive groundouts. The Owls added another run in the bottom half when Ryan Smith reached base on an error and later scored on a sacrifice bunt.

Kennesaw State jumped out to a five-run lead after three innings and took advantage of four Brown errors to claim the second game of the doubleheader.

Rookie John Torroella (Baltimore, Md.) was handed the loss after allowing four runs as the starter, while Colby Williams tossed seven scoreless innings in the win for the Owls. Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Brown lineup.
