HAMDEN, Conn. – Joachim Weberg (Oslo, Norway) tied the game early in the second period, but No. 17 Quinnipiac notched the game-winning goal late in the third, as the Bears fell on the road, 2-1, in Friday's ECAC contest at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena.
Brown moved to 7-19-2 overall and 7-12-2 in the ECAC. The Bears head into the final game of the regular season ranked ninth in the conference standings and will be on the road to open the ECAC Tournament with an opponent yet to be determined. QU improved to 20-11-2, 13-6-2.
"I thought it was a really good college hockey game," said head coach Brendan Whittet. "I thought we played hard, they played hard, and there was good pace. We'll try to get some momentum on the road tomorrow and play good hockey as we head into the playoffs."
Gavin Nieto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) made 32 stops to reach the 30-save mark for the seventh time this season. Keith Petruzzelli stopped 17 shots in the win for the Bobcats.
Brown managed to kill back-to-back penalties in the first five minutes of the contest, but Wyatt Bongiovanni opened the scoring at 11:18 in the first period, as he tipped a shot in front for the lead heading into the second frame.
Weberg evened the score for the Bears 1:05 into the middle period. Senior Trey Dodd (St. Louis, Mo.) set up Weberg in front of the net and the junior hit the top shelf for his second of the season. Senior Brent Beaudoin (Londonderry, N.H.) earned the secondary assist on the play.
Nieto stopped all 16 shots he faced in the second period to keep the game tied after 40 minutes.
The two teams traded power plays midway through the third period, but the Bobcats scored 14 seconds after Brown killed its second penalty of the night, as William Fallstrom pushed the home team back in front with 5:47 remaining.
Brown pulled Nieto with 1:21 left to play, but the Petruzzelli denied a shot from James Crossman (Denver, Colo.), and QU blocked the final two shots to hold on for the win.
Brown will visit Princeton on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
