PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team was defeated by William & Mary, 4-2, on Sunday at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"Today was a tough loss to a very solid William & Mary squad," said head coach Tim Gray. "We let some opportunities slip away, but hats off to William & Mary as they capitalized when they had the chance. We'll regroup and be ready for Michigan State on Saturday."
The Tribe took a 1-0 lead in the doubles round with a 6-2 win in the top spot and a 6-3 showing in second doubles.
Senior Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) tied up the match, 1-1, to begin singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the second position. William & Mary would again pull ahead, 2-1, by taking first single, but this time junior Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) knotted the match for Brown with a 7-5, 6-4 win in his third singles match. The Tribe were able to outlast the Bears with victories in fourth and fifth singles, including a three-set match against sophomore Roger Chou (Austin, Texas) in the fourth spot.
The Bears will next travel to Michigan State on Saturday, Feb. 29 (12:00 p.m.) and No. 4 Michigan on Sunday, March 1 (11:00 a.m.).
