
Black History Month 2020: Rebekah Splaine Salwasser ’01, Women’s Soccer

Throughout the month of February, Brown Athletics will celebrate Black History Month through a series of profiles. Over the course of the month, the Bears will recognize African Americans who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.
Rebekah Splaine Salwasser '01, Women's Soccer
Rebekah Splaine Salwasser '01 enjoyed a standout career for the Bears before going on to play professional soccer and then holding several important community outreach positions in Boston. The 1998 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Salwasser earned All-Ivy honors three times and All-Region accolades twice. After graduating she went on to play for the Boston Breakers in 2003 in the Women's United Soccer Association. She now serves as the Executive Director for the Red Sox Foundation – the largest team charity in Major League Baseball, supporting about 2,000 nonprofit and school-based organizations throughout New England and in Lee County, Florida, the club's spring training home. Before joining the Red Sox in 2018, Salwasser was the executive director of Scholar Athletes, a Boston-based nonprofit that helps high school students cultivate the discipline, confidence, and social-emotional skills needed to achieve success in school as well as in life. Prior to that, she was community relations director for the Boston Celtics, managing the Celtics' Shamrock Foundation.
