ITHACA, N.Y. - The Brown men's tennis team defeated Yale, 4-3, on day two of the ECAC Championship on Saturday at the Reis Tennis Center. The win moves the Bears to 7-1 overall on the season.
"With only seven teams playing in the ECAC tournament this year, today was a win or go home situation," said head coach Tim Gray. "Peter Litsky, Niraj Komatineni, and Roger Chou came up big in the singles to seal up a solid effort by everyone both on and off the court. We look forward to our matchup with Penn tomorrow."
Brown topped Yale for the doubles point with junior Teddy van Eck (Rye, N.Y.) and senior Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) teaming up for a 6-2 win in second doubles to open the round. Junior Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) and senior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) followed and closed things out with a 6-4 victory in the top spot.
Litsky then made it 2-0 in favor of the Bears with a 6-1, 6-3 showing in third singles. Yale got on the board with a win in the top spot before freshman Niraj Komatineni (Mason, Ohio) gave Brown a 3-1 advantage with a 7-5, 6-2 win in fifth singles. The Bulldogs countered by posting victories in second and fourth singles, respectively, knotting the match, 3-3. Sophomore Roger Chou (Austin, Texas) avenged a first set loss (7-5) and won his deciding sixth singles match by taking the next two sets by a score of 6-2.
The Bears will conclude play at the ECAC Championship tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 16) at 9:00 a.m., competing against Penn.
