
Women’s Hockey Skates to 3-3 Tie Against Saint Anselm

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team skated to 3-3 overtime tie against Saint Anselm to close out the two-game series on Saturday at Meehan Auditorium. Sophomores Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) and Jacquie Tam (Toronto, Ontario) netted power-play goals for the Bears while sophomore Lizzy Gross (Scarborough, Maine) also recorded a score.
Brown (3-15-2) held a 2-1 lead after two periods and Gross' goal at 3:10 of the third made it 3-1 before Saint Anselm (13-9-3) mounted a comeback. Madison Sprague scored a short-handed tally at 11:24 and Marissa Agerter later registered the game-tying goal at 13:44.
Neither team could find the back of the net for the remained of the third or overtime as the Bears outshot the Hawks, 3-1, in the extra frame.
Senior Maybelline Beiring (Calumet, Mich.) assisted all three of Brown's goals while junior Kaitijane Blumberg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) added helpers on two scores.
Maloney led off the game's scoring with her team-leading fifth goal of the season from the right faceoff circle to give the Bears a 1-0 lead in the first while on the power play. Beiring and Blumberg picked up their first assists on the tally.
Shots heavily favored Brown in the opening frame, 15-5, while each team had a power-play with the Bears converting. Sophomore Hayley Kliczko (Niles, Ill.) ended the stanza with five saves and stopped a short-handed breakaway to keep the Hawks off the board.
Saint Anselm knotted up the contest, 1-1, at 7:40 of the second on a score by Kaley Campbell. Brown would respond by taking back the lead just before the end of the period with the team's second power-play goal, this one coming from Tam at 19:51. Blumberg and Beiring notched their second assists as Tam picked up the puck in the neutral zone and beat her defender and Michaela Kane for her third score of the season.
Brown went 1-for-1 on the power play and fought off its lone infraction in the second while holding an 11-8 edge in shots.
Gross' score from the slot at 3:10 of the third extended Brown's lead to two (3-1) before the Hawks capped off regulation with two unanswered goals at 11:24 and 13:44.
Brown was 0-for-2 on the power play while Saint Anselm was 0-for-1 while the Bears held a 10-8 advantage in shots.
Kliczko stopped the Hawks' only shot in overtime while Brown generated three on goal in the scoreless extra period. Kane finished the contest with 36 saves while Kliczko turned aside 19 shots.
The Bears outshot the Hawks in every period for a 39-22 overall advantage. Brown was 2-for-5 on the power-play overall while the Bears fought off all three of their infractions. Brown ended the weekend 10-for-10 on the penalty kill against Saint Anselm.
Brown remains at Meehan Auditorium and will close out the season series with Yale on Tuesday, Jan. 28, welcoming the Bulldogs for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
