
Women’s Hockey Outlasted by Yale, 3-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Yale, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Meehan Auditorium. Junior Kaitijane Blumberg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) pulled the Bears within one with her score in the second period but the Bulldogs would net an empty net goal at 18:38 of the third to hold on for the win.
Senior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) finished the night with 36 saves, which included nine against the Yale power play. The Bears are now 14-for-14 over their last three games on the penalty kill with tonight's 4-for-4 performance.
Yale (13-8-0, 10-4-0 ECAC) took a 2-0 lead in the first period with scores from Claire Dalton (9:52) and Kaitlyn Rippon (16:33). Both teams fought off their only infraction while the Bulldogs held a 12-6 advantage in shots.
Brown (3-16-2, 2-11-1 ECAC) closed the gap in the second at 14:48 when Blumberg snuck one by Tera Hofmann in front for her second goal of the season. Freshman Madie Stockfish (North Bay, Ontario) earned her first collegiate point with an assist while sophomore Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) started the play and was also credited with a helper.
The Bulldogs limited the Bears to just four shots in the third period but Brown remained in the contest, pulling Isaac at 18:09. Rebecca Vanstone put the game out of reach at 18:38 when she recorded the empty netter. Vanstone and Charlotte Welch each concluded the night with a goal and an assist to lead the Bulldogs.
The Bears outshot Yale 14-11 in the second but the Bulldogs held the advantage in both the first (12-6) and third (15-4) for an overall lead of 39-24. Brown was 0-for-1 on its only power-play opportunity which came in the opening stanza.
Isaac reached the 30 save mark for the 10th time this season while her counterpart Hofmann made 23 stops for Yale.
Brown remains at Meehan Auditorium and will next host Quinnipiac on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6:00 p.m. and No. 6 Princeton on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3:00 p.m.
