
Thompson, Thygesen Earn Brown Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. ā Women's soccer junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson and men's water polo senior attacker James Thygesen have earned Brown University Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 2-8, Brown announced on Monday.

Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson recorded back-to-back shutouts last week, including a clean sheet on the road at No. 13 Texas A&M. Against the nationally ranked Aggies, the Austin, Texas native made six saves and blanked the Aggies over the full 110 minutes in a 0-0, double-overtime draw. Texas A&M ā the SEC preseason favorites ā came into the match averaging 2.40 goals per game. On Thursday, the junior transfer from West Virginia University tallied four saves in a 2-0 win over Connecticut. For the week, Thompson did not allow a goal over 200 minutes and made 10 saves.

Senior attacker James Thygesen totaled 16 goals, 11 assists, and four steals last week to help lead Brown to a 5-1 record in its opening weekend at the Bruno Classic. A native of Menlo Park, Calif., Thygesen registered hat tricks in four of the five games in which he played. He posted four goals and two assists in a 13-10 (OT) win over Wagner, notched four goals and two assists in a 14-7 win over Cal Lutheran, compiled three goals, four assists, and three steals in a 16-14 win over No. 16 California Baptist, and charted three goals and two assists against No. 16 Bucknell.
