
Men’s Tennis Closes Play at Ivy Plus Tournament

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Brown men's tennis team concluded action at the Farnsworth-Ivy Plus tournament on Sunday at the Lenz Tennis Center. The Bears were joined by players from Buffalo, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Indiana, Kentucky, Miami (FL), Michigan, Michigan State, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, Tennessee, Texas, William & Mary and Yale in the three-day tournament.
"I'm pleased with our overall effort this weekend," said head coach Tim Gray. "We clearly have work to do, but I'm excited that we have guys that are willing to put in hard yards."
Singles consisted of 80 players over five 16-player draws, while doubles was comprised of five draws with eight pairs each. Friday had two rounds of doubles and one round of singles while Saturday was two rounds of singles. Sunday had one round of doubles and the final round of singles.
After advancing from his first set (6-5 RET.), senior Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) faced off against No. 9 Jack Lin in the Tiger Draw, but fell 6-2, 6-0. Listky rebounded and defeated Edoardo Graziani of Penn, 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday. Litsky also squared off against his second ranked opponent on Sunday, No. 41 Charlie Broom (Dartmouth), but fell, 6-3,6-4.
Senior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) posted two wins in the Nassau Draw, 0-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1 (Payam Ahmadi, Indiana-Bloomington), and 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-1 (Thomas Bosancic, Princeton), before falling 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals match (Austen Huang, Columbia).
Freshman Niraj Komatineni (Mason, Ohio) opened his collegiate career on Friday with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Michigan's Kristofer Siimar in the Cordish Draw. Komatineni wrapped up the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Jack Kelly of William & Mary.
Freshman Matthew Mu (La Jolla, Calif.) fell in his first match in the Pagoda Draw but followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Texas' Eshan Talluri. Mu then came from behind to defeated Drew Keene of Michigan State (0-6, 6-4, 10-8).
In doubles, a team of Komatineni and Walker picked up two wins in the Forbes Draw, the first, and 8-4 victory over Piekarsky/Singh of Indiana-Bloomington, while the team capped off the tournament with an 8-6 win over Cornell's Vasa/Ho on Sunday.
The Bears next host the Brown Invitational Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29, where Bryant, Boston College, Villanova, UConn and Quinnipiac will be competing.
