PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team hosted the Brown Invitational this weekend at the Brown Varsity Tennis Courts. Boston College, Bryant, Quinnipiac, UConn and Villanova joined the Bears in the tournament with a hidden dual format.
"As our first home event of the season we certainly were excited to get out in front of some home fans and compete," said head coach Tim Gray. "While it's always good to see some successful results in the early fall, we know we are building steadily towards the ITA Regional in a few weeks. Overall, we had many positives for our first time seeing the whole squad together, and as a coaching staff we got a good look at areas we need to tweak. We are excited to continue to get our young guys some more experience next week at the Dartmouth Invitational."
Day One vs. Villanova
The Bears opened the tournament on Friday dominating Villanova, winning all but one match against the Wildcats. Senior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) and junior Ben Collier (Darien, Conn.) teamed up for a 7-6 (2) win in first doubles while junior Teddy van Eck (Rye, N.Y.) and sophomore Roger Chou (Austin, Texas) recorded a 6-1 victory in second doubles. Freshman Niraj Komatineni (Mason, Ohio) and junior Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) followed in the third spot (6-4) while freshman Matthew Mu (La Jolla, Calif.) and sophomore Alan Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) closed out doubles play with a 7-5 win (fourth).
