PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Calvin Farris (San Diego, Calif.) hit an RBI single in the sixth to make it a one-run game, but Harvard scored four runs over the final two innings, as the Brown baseball team fell to the Crimson, 7-2, in Monday's season finale at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.
Â
Harvard (25-13, 14-7 Ivy) captured the Ivy League title outright with the win after the two teams split a doubleheader on Saturday. Brown wrapped up its season at 12-27, 9-12. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday but moved due to weather.
Â
Junior Will Tomlinson (Irvine, Calif.) went 5.2 innings as the starter and allowed two earned runs with four strikeouts in the loss. Ian Miller earned the win for the visitors behind two earned runs over 5.1 innings of work.
Â
Brown drew six walks in the game, including two by Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) to finish with 41 on the season, who extended his single-season program walks record set on Saturday. Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) and Farris drove in one run apiece.
Â
After Harvard scored once in the second, Brown evened the score in the bottom of the third, when Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) drew a one-out walk and later scored on a single by Phillips to left field. The Crimson added one run in the fourth and sixth innings to move out in front by two runs.
Â
Nevertheless, Homza hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the sixth, before Farris sent an RBI single to right field to cut the deficit to one, 3-2.
Â
Harvard came back with three runs in the eighth as Ben Skinner hit a bases-clearing triple down the left field line. The Crimson added an insurance run in the ninth and then Kieran Shaw secured the save with three strikeouts in the bottom half of the frame. Â
Â
Dustin Baird (Indianapolis, Ind.) tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Bears, while Ryan Fisch (Sugar Land, Texas) and JJ Sliepka (Houston, Texas) combined for four strikeouts out of the bullpen.
