PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 5 Brown University men's crew team earned a victory over No. 7 Princeton in the second varsity eight, but fell to the Tigers in the varsity, as the two crews wrapped up the regular season at Lake Carnegie on Saturday.
The racing featured good conditions all around, with a light headwind on flat water, as Princeton won the varsity race in a time of 5:45.4 to reclaim the Content Cup. Brown crossed the finish line at 5:48.8.
"The varsity was put under pressure today and did not respond as well as they needed to," said head coach Paul Cooke. "It was a tough loss but a good test and we now have a clear view of how we can improve as we approach the Championship races."
Brown's second varsity won for the fifth time in as many races with a winning time of 5:49.8, before the Tigers crossed at 5:53.3.
"The Second Varsity raced very well," said Cooke. "It was as strong a performance as they have had all season."
Princeton also earned victories in the third varsity at 5:57.4 and in the fourth varsity in a time of 6:02.8.
Brown will return for the EARC Eastern Sprints in two weeks on Sunday, May 19 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.
