Men’s Crew Ready for Eastern Sprints on Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 6 Brown University men's crew will head to Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday when the Bears compete at the Eastern Association of Rowing College (EARC) Sprints in Worcester, Mass. The morning heats will start at 8 AM before the afternoon finals at 12:48 PM.

State of the Bears
Brown's varsity boat went 3-3 in head-to-head competition with wins over Boston University, Northeastern and Dartmouth, while the second varsity boat has captured five straight victories to close out the regular season. The Bears enjoyed a standout performance at the Head of the Charles Regatta in the Fall with a three medals, including second among collegiate crews in the championship eights, while the championship fours earned gold among college boats.
About The Sprints
In addition to the EARC title, made up of the top rowing schools in the East, the Eastern Sprints will also determine the Ivy League Championship. The Sprints is located on a six-lane course and features a heat/final progression with trials in the morning followed by finals in the afternoon. Spectators will be able to enjoy the full race experience at Regatta Point State Park.
Scouting the Sprints
Brown's varsity boat is seeded fourth in the final EARC poll, behind Yale, Harvard and Princeton, while the second varsity is seeded second, the third varsity fifth and the fourth varsity eighth. Yale has won four straight Sprints and Ivy League titles, determined by the varsity eight, and also captured the Rowe Cup last season for team points.
Bruno at Eastern Sprints
Brown has captured nine Ivy League titles all-time, including in 2012 to complete a stretch of three in five years. The Bears also won the Ivy title in 1972, 1984, 1987, 1993, 1994, 2000, 2008 and 2009.
Brown finished third at the 2018 Eastern Sprints and captured a pair of bronze medals in the varsity and second varsity races. The Bears also placed fifth in the Rowe Cup standings, awarded to the school with the highest number of total points.
In the National Polls
Brown is ranked sixth in the latest IRA/USRowing Coaches Poll, trailing Yale, Washington, Harvard, Cal and Princeton. The Bears have been ranked as high as fourth in the national poll this season.
