PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Juniors Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) and Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) both recorded multiple-hit games, but the Brown baseball team came up short to Maine, 8-5, in Tuesday's non-conference tilt at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.
Â
Brown moved to 11-25 after its final non-conference game of the season, while Maine improved to 10-26.
Â
"Maine's pitchers did a good job of keeping our hitters off balance, and executing against our pitchers in the middle of the game," said head coach Grant Achilles. "The next few days are important for us to close out the year against a solid Harvard team."
Â
Delano and Phillips each had two hits and Delano added a pair of RBIs and runs scored, while sophomore Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) also drove home a pair of runs.
Â
Bobby Cliche earned the win for the Black Bears on two innings of relief work, while rookie right-hander Joshua Wilder (San Marcos, Texas) was handed the loss for the Bears.
Â
After Maine scored took the lead with a pair of runs in the third, Delano blasted his fifth home run in as many games and sixth of the season to cut the lead to one. Rookie Charlie Beilenson (Los Angeles, Calif.) pitched a 1-2-3 fourth frame and Ryan Fisch (Sugar Land, Texas) followed with a scoreless fifth, before the Bears gained the lead in the bottom half, as Phillips smacked a two-run double down the left field line.
Â
Maine answered with six runs over the next two innings to move in front by five runs. The Bears returned the favor with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Lomuscio came up with a two-run double with two outs, trimming the deficit to three.
Â
Nevertheless, Trevor DeLaite secured the win with a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save.
Â
Brown will host Harvard in a three-game series this weekend to wrap up the season. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 11:30 AM. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
