Bears score eight runs over final two frames in series finale

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown baseball team racked up nine runs over the final three innings as the Bears topped Princeton, 11-5, to wrap up the three-game series Sunday at Clarke Field.

Brown (11-24, 8-10 Ivy League) outhit the Tigers by a 13-9 margin in the series finale. Princeton moved to 13-23, 8-10.

Mark Sluys (Gig Harbor, Wash.) led four players with multiple-hit efforts as he posted three hits with a double. Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) and Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) had two hits and four RBIs apiece, while Delano also scored three runs. Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) added a pair of hits.

Will Tomlinson (Irvine, Calif.) allowed three runs over 5.1 frames in a no decision and rookie Zach Fogell (Cumberland, R.I.) earned his first career win with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief work. Dustin Baird (Indianapolis, Ind.) came in for the final six outs to pick up the save.

Delano scored the first run of the game when Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) hit a two-out RBI double in the third, but the Tigers scored four runs over the next three frames for the lead. The two teams traded runs in the sixth inning as the home side maintained a three-run advantage.

Phillips trimmed the deficit to two runs with a two-out RBI single in the seventh, before the Bears took the lead with three runs the next frame, as Lomuscio hit a two-run triple and Delano followed with a double to right field.

Brown kept it going with a five-run ninth inning, highlighted by Delano's three-run homer for his fifth of the season and fourth in the last four games. Lomuscio also added a two-run single and Baird pitched two hitless innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts for the save.

Brown will host Maine on Tuesday before welcoming Harvard for a three-game series next weekend to close out the regular season.
