JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Elliot Ginns (Chevy Chase, Md.) racked up three hits, but the Brown baseball team fell to Jacksonville, 10-0, in the opener of a four-game series Friday evening at John Sessions Stadium.
Â
Brown dropped to 1-6 on the season and the Dolphins improved to 6-6 overall.
Â
"The eight-spot certainly stands out in the box score, but we just couldn't string anything together offensively against their starter," said head coach Grant Achilles. "Tomorrow is a fresh day for us to come out and play aggressive baseball."
Â
Tyler Santana tossed six scoreless innings for Jacksonville in the win, while sophomore Collin Garner (St. Augustine, Fla.) took the loss for the Bears, as he allowed five runs in five innings of work. Ryan Fisch (Sugar Land, Texas) provided two hitless innings out of the bullpen.
Â
Ginns went 3-for-3 at the plate to pace the Brown offense. Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) posted a double and Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) extended his hit streak to six games.
Â
Jacksonville scored one run in the first and the third frames as Garner kept the Dolphins to just two runs through innings. Brown used consecutive hits to set up a pair of baserunners in the fifth, but Santana came up with the groundout to end the threat.
Â
The Dolphins scored eight runs on seven hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to move out to a ten-run advantage. The Brown bullpen held the Dolphins to without a hit over the final three innings, but the Bears were kept off the board the rest of the way.
Â
Brown and Jacksonville will meet for a doubleheader Saturday. The first game is set for 1 PM.
