
Baseball Drops Pair at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Brown baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Jacksonville, 15-0 and 6-2, on Saturday in the middle games of a four-game set at John Sessions Stadium.

Brown moved to 1-8 overall and Jacksonville improved to 8-6 on the season.

Game 1 – Jacksonville 15, Brown 0 (7 Innings)
Jacksonville racked up 12 runs in the second inning to pave the way to a win in the first game of the doubleheader. The Dolphins outhit the Bears, 10-6.

Trent Palmer went the distance for Jacksonville as he allowed six hits in 7.0 scoreless innings of work. Will Tomlinson (Irvine, Calif.) took the loss for the Bears as the starter.

Six different players posted hits for the Bears, while Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska), Elliot Ginns (Chevy Chase, Md.) and Dalton Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) all went 1-for-2 at the plate.

Jacksonville took advantage of seven walks and one error in a 12-run second frame. Brown's best opportunity came in the top of the fifth, when Ginns and Schroeder opened with back-to-back singles, but Palmer answered with three straight outs to escape the inning and maintain the shutout.

The Dolphins added another run in the third and two more in the sixth to close out the first game of the doubleheader.

Game 2 – Jacksonville 6, Brown 2 (7 Innings)
Calvin Farris (San Diego, Calif.) paced the Bears in the second game with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate with one run scored.

Pat Petteruti (East Greenwich, R.I.) was handed the loss as the starter with three earned runs over two innings. Rookies Ryan Kuntz (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Charlie Beilenson (Los Angeles, Calif.) combined for one over four frames in relief. Greg Shannahan earned the win for the Dolphins behind three innings of hitless ball out of the bullpen.

After Jacksonville established an early lead with five runs over the opening two frames, the Bears answered with two runs in the top of the third, as Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) scored on a passed ball and Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) drove home a run with a sacrifice fly.

Nevertheless, Jacksonville came back with one run in the fifth, and held the Bears to one hit the rest of the way to secure the second game of the doubleheader.

Brown and Jacksonville will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1 PM.
