Throughout the month of March, Brown Athletics will celebrate Women's History Month through a series of profiles. Over the course of the month, the Bears will recognize women who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.

Katie King '97, Ice Hockey/Softball

One of Brown's most successful student-athletes, Katie King '97 starred for the Bears in both ice hockey and softball while earning a degree in Organizational Behavior and Management. At Brown, King was a three-time Ivy League Player of the Year (1994-97) and an ECAC Hockey Player of the Year selection in 1997 after shattering the Brown records for career points (206) and goals (123) in only 100 games. She won the athletic department's prestigious Marjorie Brown Smith Award as Outstanding Female Athlete in 1997. On the diamond, King earned Ivy League Player of the Year honors as a junior and Pitcher of the Year recognition as senior, leading the Bears to an Ivy Championship in 1997. A 2004 inductee into the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame, King competed for the U.S. Women's National Ice Hockey Team in three straight Olympics winning gold in Nagano in 1998, silver in Salt Lake City in 2002, and bronze in Torino in 2006. She has served as the head women's ice hockey coach at Boston College since the 2007-08 season and has led the Eagles to six Frozen Four appearances.
