McCaleb and Aughavin Help Men's Lacrosse Stay Unbeaten In Ivy Play With 14-10 Win over Princeton

Princeton, N.J. – Junior Luke McCaleb (Chevy Chase, MD) scored four goals and sophomore Ryan Aughavin (Glen Head, NY) added three goals as Brown rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to earn a 14-10 Ivy League win over Princeton Saturday afternoon at Class of 1952 Field.
The Bears remain unbeaten in the Ivy League with a 2-0 mark, 4-5 overall, while Princeton falls to 0-3 in the league, 3-6 overall.
"This was a great team win," said Brown head coach Mike Daly. "There were lots of individual performances, but the team was great on every front."
McCaleb registered five points with four goals and an assist, while Aughavin had three goals and one assist. Freshman Darian Cook (Redding, CT) also had five points with two goals and three assists. In addition, freshman Andrew Geppert (Dover, NH) was singled out with a strong performance on defense.
Bears' junior All-American goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) was spectacular in goal with 16 saves. Princeton goalie Erik Peters registered 11 saves in net for the Tigers.
Princeton was paced by Emmet Cordrey with three goals and an assist, while Alexander Vardaro netted two goals.
Brown dug itself a 4-0 hole in the opening 10 minutes, but goals by Aughavin and senior Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA) cut the Tigers' lead to 4-2 after one quarter.
Brown dominated the second quarter with goals by sophomore Jack Parr (Glenwood, MD), Cook and two straight by McCaleb, his second with 2:18 left in the half, to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.
The see-saw battle continued into the third quarter with Princeton scoring first followed by goals by Brown's Cook and McCaleb for an 8-6 Bears' advantage. Consecutive goals by Princeton's Cordrey tied the game, 8-8, before Colby Gendron (Bedford, NH) found the back of the net to lift Brown to a 9-8 lead after three quarters.
Aughavin and McCaleb scored to lift the Bears an 11-8 advantage with 12:27 remaining. The Tigers cut the Bears' lead to one goal, but Brown got consecutive goals from Aughavin, sophomore George Grell (Short Hills, NJ) and junior Jack Kniffin (Darien, CT) for a five goal lead, 14-9 with 5:04 left in the game.
Brown takes on Penn in an Ivy League game next Saturday, April 6, hosting the Quakers at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Follow all the action on ESPN+ starting at 4:00 pm.
