Providence, R.I. – Attackman Adam Goldner scored six goals to lead the sixth-ranked Penn men's lacrosse team to its sixth straight win, 16-9, over Brown in the battle for first place in the Ivy League standings at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

Penn stays unbeaten in the Ivy league with a 4-0 league mark, 6-3 overall, clinching an Ivy League playoff berth, while Brown falls to 2-1 in the Ivy League, 4-6 overall.

"Hats off to Penn," said Brown head coach Mike Daly, "they made the plays. We just couldn't get over the hump to make enough plays to win the game."

Sophomore George Grell (Short Hills, NJ) paced the Bears with two goals and two assists, while senior Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA) had two goals and an assist. Defensively, Bears' freshman defenseman Andrew Geppert (Dover, NH) registered three caused turnovers.

Bears' junior goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) made 14 saves, allowing three late empty net goals. Penn goalie Reed Junkin registered 15 saves.

Goldner's six goals came on 15 shots for the Quakers.

Overall, the Bears were out-shot by a 61-39 margin and the Quakers held a 32-30 advantage in ground balls. Quakers' face-off specialist Kyle Gallagher captured 16-of-26 face-offs.

With Penn leading 5-2 midway through the second quarter, the Bears got goals from junior Jack Kniffin (Darien, CT) and Darian Cook (Redding, CT) to pull to within one goal, 5-4, with 6:42 remaining in the half.

A quick goal by Penn's Joe Licciardi and two more in the final minute lifted the Quakers to an 8-4 lead at the half.

While the Quakers opened the second half scoring, Brown goals by Grell and Panepinto drew the Bears to within three goals, 9-6, midway through the third quarter.

Consecutive goals by Sam Handley and Licciardi gave Penn its biggest lead, 11-6, at the 7:05 mark of the third quarter.

Trailing 12-7, Brown opened the fourth quarter with goals by Grell and Panepinto to trail, 12-9, with 6:37 left in the game. The Quakers scored four straight goals, including three without Goss in the goal.

Brown continues with Ivy League play next week, traveling to New Haven, Conn., on Saturday, April 13, to face #5 Yale. Face-off is 1:00 pm on ESPN+.
