Women’s Lacrosse Falls at No. 17 Florida, 22-11

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Brown women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 17 Florida, 22-11, on Tuesday night at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The Gators built a 12-6 lead by halftime and took the second half by a 10-5 margin.
"I thought our team fought hard for the full 60 minutes," said head coach Keely McDonald. "This is a great group to work with and I have no doubt they will be eager to learn from the game and focus on our next opponent."
Freshman Claire Jeschke (Syracuse, N.Y.) led Brown (4-5) in scoring with a career-high five points on two goals and three assists. Sophomore Risa Mosenthal (Campton, N.H.) added her eighth hat trick of the season while freshman Alaina Parisella (Chatham, N.J.) and junior Emma DeGennaro (Huntington, N.Y.) each chipped in two scores.
The Bears opened the contest with a 3-1 lead aided by two tallies from Mosenthal at 26:03 and 24:36. Florida (5-6) next took its first lead of the night with three-straight goals, two coming off of free-position shots.
Freshman Sophia DeRosa (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) (16:35) and Mosenthal (14:00) put in two scores to return the lead to Brown, 5-4, but the Gators would close out the half with an 8-1 run over the final 11 minutes with Lindsey Ronbeck netting three goals in the span.
Shots were 20-8 in favor of Florida for the stanza while the Gators also held a 13-6 advantage in draw controls. Florida was 5-for-10 on free-position shots while Brown did not have an attempt in the half.
The Gators increased their lead to 14-6 to start things in the second before Jeschke scored at 23:01. Florida added a run of 5-1 to bring the score to 19-8 at 11:52 on a free-position shot by Ronbeck. DeGennaro recorded back-to-back goals at 8:38 and 7:09 before the Gators countered with three straight. Parisella wrapped up the game's scoring with nine seconds remaining.
Brown closed the margin in both shots (15-10) and draw controls (8-7) in the second but trailed Florida in both categories. After 10 free-position shots in the first, the Gators had just two and were 1-for-2 while the Bears had their lone attempt, going 0-for-1.
In net, freshman Erin Tucker (Centerport, N.Y.) finished with six saves while her counterpart, Haley Hicklen, concluded the night with four stops.
The Gators were led by Ronbeck who had six goals and two assists while Shannon Kavanagh (5G) and Madi Hall (4G, 1A) also had strong outings.
The Bears will next host back-to-back non-conference games at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31. Sacred Heart will come to town on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game while Fresno State closes out the weekend's action on Sunday at noon.
