Men's Lacrosse Falls To #20 Mass, 14-7

Amherst, Mass. - Brown senior Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA) scored three goals, but #20 UMass led from start-to-finish in a 14-7 win over the Bears Saturday afternoon at Garbor Field. The win lifts the Minutemen to 6-3 overall, while Brown falls to 3-4 overall.
"It was a disappointing game, but we have another opportunity on Monday against Villanova," said Brown head coach Mike Daly., "We will get right back after it."
UMass out-shot the Bears by a 37-36 margin and the ground balls were even at 30-30.
Bears' junior goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) made five saves, while Minuteman starter Sean Sconone registered 16 saves.
Panepinto added an assist to go with his three goals for four points, while junior Luke McCaleb (Chevy Chase, MD) added two goals and George Grell (Short Hills, NJ) and George Pike (Woodside, CA) added one each.
The Minutemen were paced by Chris Connolly with five points (3 goals, 3 assists) and Gabriel Procyn with three goals.
Brown trailed 5-1 at the half with Grell scoring the lone goal for the Bears with 50-seconds left in the first quarter.
Panepinto opened the second half scoring for the Bears to trail, 5-2, but the Minutemen quickly countered with five straight goals to grab a 10-2 advantage with 4:29 left in the third quarter.
McCaleb's goal with 3:30 remaining was offset by Minutemen scores by Jeff Trainor and Paparo in the final 19 seconds to give the Minutemen a 12-3 lead heading into the final quarter.
Panepinto went on to score two more goals for the Bears in the fourth quarter, while McCaleb and Pike added one each to help the Bears to a 4-2 fourth quarter advantage.
The Bears will host Villanova on Monday, March 25 with a matinee matchup at Stevenson-Pincince Field against the Wildcats at 3:00 pm. Follow all the action on ESPN+.
