Men's Basketball Travels to Los Angeles to Face Loyola Marymount in the Second Round of the CBI

Providence, R.I. - Â After posting its school-record 20th win and earning its first ever postseason victory in the opening round of the Roman College Basketball Invitational, Brown men's basketball heads to Los Angeles for a second round action matchup against Loyola Marymount. The Bears – School Record 20 Wins: Brown (20-11) set a new school record with its 20th win on Wednesday against UAB, 83-78, in the first round of the CBI, earning its first ever postseason victory. Senior Obi Okolie scored a career high 26 points against the Blazers, connecting on a career best seven treys, eighth best in Brown basketball history. Junior Josh Howard (15 points), junior Zach Hunsaker (12 points), senior Chris Sullivan (11 points) and sophomore Tamenang Choh (10 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists) also scored in double figures for the Bears. Brown's 13 home wins are also a school record.

The Lions:  Loyola Marymount (21-11) is coming off a thrilling 56-55 win at Cal Baptist in the opening round of the CBI.  The Lions, who play in the West Coast Conference, were paced by Mattias Markusson with 13 points. James Bateman is the only LMU player to start all 32 games and leads the squad with 16.5 points per game.
Brown in the CBI: The Bears are playing in the CBI for the second time, having previously played at Ohio University on 3/18/08, an 80-74 loss in Athens, Ohio. Damon Huffman '09 knocked down a Brown and CBI record nine treys in the game.Â

Bears in the Postseason:Â Â Brown is making its sixth appearance in the postseason and earned its first postseason win with its 83-78 win over UAB in Wednesday's opening round of the CBI. The Bears played in the NCAA Tournament in 1939 and 1986, the NIT in 2003, the CBI in 2008 and the CIT in 2014.

All-Ivy Team:Brown senior captain Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario) was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, head coach Mike Martin was selected the Ivy League Coach of the Year, and Okolie and sophomore forward Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) were named to the All-Ivy Team, earning Second Team All-Ivy honors in a vote of the eight Ivy League men's basketball coaches.
Joshua Howard Inside: Junior forward Joshua Howard (Charlotte, NC), who returned to the lineup on 3/1/19 after missing a month due to injury, tossed in 15 points against UAB in the first round of the CBI on Wednesday, hitting 5-of-9 field goals, including 3-of-5 treys. Howard scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds in Brown's final Ivy game vs. Penn. He made the difference in the Bears' home win over Cornell with a season high 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field. Howard scored 10 points and pulled down a team high five rebounds in Brown's win over Maine. He tossed in 11 points vs. San Diego State on 4-of-5 shooting from the field, while grabbing five rebounds. Howard scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half on 5-of-6 shooting from the field to help Brown beat Marist. He scored nine points vs. Butler on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Howard had 13 points vs. Navy on 5-of-9 shooting, while pulling down five rebounds and blocking a career high three shots. He tossed in 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds vs. Bryant and added eight points and five rebounds vs. Rhode Island.  Howard had 11 points and three rebounds in Brown's season opener vs. LIU-Brooklyn and came back by matching his career rebounding high with 11 rebounds vs. NJIT. He netted 11 points vs. Salve Regina on 3-of-3 shooting from the field, while grabbing four rebounds. Howard scored 10 points vs. Sacred Heart and just missed a double-double vs. Army with eight points and 10 rebounds.  He earned 16 starts for the Bears a year ago and averaged 5.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. His dad, Juwan Howard, was a member of Michigan's Fab Five and a 22-year NBA player.

Hunsaker In The Backcourt:Junior guard and two-year captain Zach Hunsaker (North Salt Lake City, UT), a Second Team Academic All-American, is averaging 6.0 ppg. Hunsaker, an Economics/Portuguese concentrator with a 4.0 GPA, logged 34 minutes against UAB in the opening round of the CBI, scoring 12 points for the Bears. He scored 11 points against Cornell where he connected on 4-of-6 field goals, including 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc. Hunsaker netted nine points vs. Penn and came back with 10 points in a win over Princeton, connecting on 3-of-5 field goals. He tossed in 13 points vs. Yale on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, connecting on 3-of-4 treys. Hunsaker scored nine points and handed out five assists in a win over Canisius. He had four rebounds and three assists vs. San Diego State and scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out three assists vs. Stony Brook.  Hunsaker netted 10 points and grabbed four rebounds vs. Maine and had seven points and three rebounds in Brown's win over Marist. He connected on a key trey in Brown's win over Sacred Heart and netted 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field vs. Army. He tossed in seven points vs. Bryant and nine points vs. Salve Regina. Last year, Hunsaker ranked second on the Brown team in treys (46) and assists (46) and ranked third on the Brown team with 9.7 points per game. Hunsaker, who connected on a coast-to-coast game buzzer beater vs. Dartmouth at the buzzer last year, scored a career high 21 points vs. Bryant last year, knocking down 5-of-10 treys.

Fuller Up:  Senior forward Travis Fuller (Encinitas, CA) registered a season high nine points vs. Johnson & Wales, while pulling down three rebounds. He scored four points against Army in the Brown Tip-Off Classic. Last year, Fuller earned three starts and posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds against LIU Brooklyn. He finished the season with an average of 3.2 rebounds per game.

Okolie, Sullivan and Hunsaker Repeat As Brown Basketball Captains:   Brown men's basketball head coach Mike Martin announced that senior Obi Okolie, senior Chris Sullivan and junior Zach Hunsaker have been elected tri-captains of the 2018-19 team for the second straight season.

Obi Okolie – Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year:  Bears' senior guard Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario) was named the Ivy League's Defensive Player of the Year and earned Second Team All-Ivy honors. Okolie exploded for a career high 26 points in the first round of the CBI, knocking down a career best seven treys (7-of-14). He scored in double figures in 13 of Brown's 14 Ivy League games, and is recognized as one of the top defensive stoppers in the Ivy League, averaging 12.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. He recently scored his 1,000thcareer point after netting 14 points and matching his career high with nine rebounds in Brown's win over Cornell. He now has 1,053 career points, 25thbest in Brown history. Okolie scored 16 points against Harvard and 14 points vs. Dartmouth, but more importantly, shut down the top two three-point shooters in the Ivy League, holding Harvard's Bryce Aiken and Dartmouth's Brendan Barry to a combined 2-of-13 in three-point shooting and 9-of-26 shooting from the field. He scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Cornell in Ithaca, and came back with 16 points and five rebounds vs. Columbia in New York City. Okolie exploded for a career high 25 points vs. Penn, hitting 9-of-11 field goals, and then came back with 18 points in Brown's win over Princeton. He scored a game high 15 points in Brown's win over Dartmouth and played a pivotal defensive role, and came back with 12 points and eight rebounds vs. Harvard. Okolie netted 14 points in Brown's Ivy opener vs. Yale and added 10 points in the rematch with the Bulldogs. He scored 12 points, handed out three assists and grabbed four rebounds vs. Johnson & Wales and had 15 points and grabbed four rebounds in Brown's win over Canisius.  He scored 13 points with 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the three-point arc, grabbed four rebounds and handed out five assists in Brown's win over San Diego State. Okolie tossed in 10 points on perfect 4-of-4 shooting against Marist after scoring 14 points and grabbing five rebounds in Brown's win over Stony Brook.  He found his stroke vs. Butler with 11 points, knocking down a career high three treys on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc. He had six rebounds vs. Rhode Island and his four assists vs. Bryant led the Bears. Okolie opened the season with 17 points and six rebounds vs. LIU.Â

Choh – Ivy League's Leading Rebounder:  Sophomore forward Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) was named a Second Team All-Ivy selection after leading the Ivy League in rebounding (8.8 per game), and ranking 11th in FG percentage (.504), 10th in blocked shots (0.9 per game) and fifth in assists (3.4 apg.). His 9.5 rebounds per game in league games led the Ivy League, and he has posted 11 double-doubles on the season. Choh just missed a triple-double against UAB in the first round of the CBI with 10 points, 11 rebounds and a career high eight assists. He scored a career high 25 points vs. Columbia, while adding nine rebounds, and had 11 rebounds and six rebounds vs. Cornell. Choh posted consecutive double-doubles in Brown's sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth with 11 points and 10 rebounds vs. the Crimson and 14 points and 11 rebounds vs. the Big Green. He registered a double-double vs. Cornell on the road with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and netted a game high 22 points vs. Columbia. Choh posted a double-double vs. Penn with 11 points and 13 rebounds and then had 16 points and nine rebounds vs. Princeton. He had a big game in Brown's win over Dartmouth with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Choh posted back-to-back double-doubles vs. Yale with 18 points and a career high 16 rebounds in the first match-up and then scoring 24 points, while adding 15 rebounds in the second game. He had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 19 minutes vs. Johnson & Wales. Choh had a big game against Canisius, posting a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  He scored 11 points in Brown's win over Maine. Choh sparked the Bears to a win over San Diego State with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the three point arc, while grabbing six rebounds and handing out six assists. He dominated Stony Brook with a double-double - 20 points and 12 rebounds.  Choh pulled down a game high 10 rebounds vs. Butler, while adding eight points and three assists. He scored eight points, grabbed eight rebounds, handed out four assists and made a career high three steals vs. Navy.  Choh posted a double-double performance with 12 points and 13 rebounds vs. Rhode Island. He blocked a career high five shots vs. Bryant, while scoring 12 points against the Bulldogs. Choh was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Brown Tip-Off Classic after scoring 10 points and grabbing nine rebounds vs. Sacred Heart, and coming back with a double-double vs. Army (12 points, 10 rebounds). He scored a team high 13 points vs. Salve Regina and had a big game vs. LIU-Brooklyn with nine points, 12 rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots.  Choh scored a team high 17 points against NJIT. Last year, he came on strong down the stretch in a starting role, scoring 23 points, while grabbing nine rebounds in Brown's final game against Penn.  A relentless rebounder, he led the Bears with 5.4 rebounds per game, 7.0 rebounds in conference play.
Sullivan Earns Starting Role:Senior guard and two-year team captain Chris Sullivan (Wilmette, IL) has been effective coming off the bench to provide a defensive presence for the Bears. He earned a starting role vs. UAB in the first round of the CBI, scoring 11 points, handing out two assists and making two steals. Sullivan may have been the difference in Brown's win over Dartmouth with a career high 13 points, connecting on 5-of-6 field goals, including 3-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc. He tossed in seven points in Brown's second game vs. Yale, and had four points at home vs. Princeton.  Sullivan had three points and three rebounds vs. Stony Brook and netted three points and two rebounds vs. Maine. He knocked down a trey and had two assists vs. Navy, scored four points vs. NJIT and registered 11 points vs. UMass Lowell. Last year, he helped the Bears topple UMass Lowell with 11 points, connecting on 3-of-3 treys. He is the third Sullivan brother to play for Brown, following in the footsteps of brothers Peter '11 and Matt '13.

Mitchell Contributes:Freshman guard David Mitchell (Roxbury, MA) has seen more playing time than any freshman on the Brown team and is a steady contributor. He tossed in four points vs. UAB in the first round of the CBI. Mitchell matched his career high with eight rebounds at Penn in Brown's final regular season game. He tossed in six points and grabbed seven rebounds in Brown's win at Dartmouth. Mitchell had two points and five rebounds in Brown's second game vs. Yale. He scored a season high eight points vs. UMass Lowell. Mitchell pulled down a career high eight rebounds in a road win over Canisius. He contributed with seven points against Maine.

DeWolf Sidelined:  Sophomore forward Matt DeWolf (Barrington, RI) started 24-of-27 games for the Bears, and is averaging 3.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.  DeWolf was injured in the first 21 seconds in Brown's game vs. Columbia on 3/1/19 when he caught an elbow to his face region, and has not returned to the lineup. He had eight points and five rebounds in Brown's win over Harvard. DeWolf pulled down five rebounds vs. Cornell in Ithaca and a team high six rebounds vs. Columbia in New York City. He scored a career high 11 points vs. Johnson & Wales, connecting on 4-of-4 field goals, while grabbing six rebounds. He pulled down six rebounds vs. Butler and four rebounds vs. Stony Brook. DeWolf hit all three of his shots in scoring six points vs. Bryant. He had six points and four rebounds vs. Sacred Heart, and six points and six rebounds vs. Army. DeWolf had two points and five rebounds in Brown's season opener vs. LIU-Brooklyn and came back with six points vs. NJIT. Last year, his 4.4 rebounds per game were third on the Brown team, including a career high 13 rebounds against Dartmouth.
Brandon Anderson – 7th in Ivy League FT Percentage:  Junior guard Brandon Anderson (Mahwah, NJ) ranks seventh in the Ivy League in free throw percentage (.747) and is 9th in the Ivy League with 1.2 steals per game. Anderson, who missed Brown's opening CBI game against UAB, tossed in a season high 21 points and made three steals in Brown's win at Princeton. He had eight points vs. Columbia and 10 points vs. Cornell. Anderson had a big weekend in Brown's sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth, scoring 13 points vs. the Crimson and a season high 21 points against the Big Green.  He provided a spark coming off the bench vs. Columbia, scoring six points and grabbing two rebounds. Anderson, who had eight points in Brown's first game vs. Yale, tossed in nine points in Brown's win over Canisius. He hit 6-of-6 free throws in scoring eight points against Maine. Anderson scored nine points vs. San Diego State and had five points and five assists vs. Marist. He matched his career high with seven assists vs. Navy while adding 10 points. Anderson opened the season by scoring 17 points and handing out four assists vs. LIU-Brooklyn. He was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Brown Tip-Off Classic after scoring 12 points vs. UMass Lowell, 10 points vs. Sacred Heart and a game high 16 points vs. Army. Anderson tossed in 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field vs. Bryant and registered 11 points and handed out five assists vs. Salve Regina. Last year, he ranked third in the Ivy League in scoring with 17.3 ppg, was second in with 3.9 assists per game, and connected on 169-of-196 free throws (.862), third best in the Ivy League. Anderson tossed in a career high 26 points against Northwestern.

First Career Points:  Four different Brown players scored for the first time in their careers vs. Salve Regina – freshman Thomas Shaughnessy (7), sophomore Jake Shaper (4), freshman Jaylan Gainey (4) and freshman Davis Franks (2). Gainey went on to record season highs of 12 points and six rebounds against Johnson & Wales.

Christian Berardi Drafted By Brown Basketball Through Team IMPACT:Boston-headquartered national nonprofit Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of a team, along with Brown University Men's Basketball, held a special Draft Day celebration for 7-year-old Christian Berardi of North Providence, RI on November 13 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Christian  was diagnosed in 2014 with Eosphilic Esophagitis and Malignant Hyperthermia.  Through Team IMPACT's program at Brown, the top recruit will become an official member of the men's basketball team. As a team member, Christian will attend the Bears' practices, games, team dinners, events, and more.Â

Mawanda-Kalema Earns Career Scoring High: Sophomore guard George Mawanda-Kalema (Burke, VA), who is averaging 4.9 points per game, contributed five points in Brown's first round CBI win over UAB. He tossed in 14 points vs. Cornell on the road with 4-of-5 shooting from the field.  Mawanda-Kalema netted eight points in Brown's win over Harvard and added six points vs. Dartmouth. He exploded for a career high 19 points in Brown's win over Princeton, connecting on 8-of-13 field goals, and had six points vs. Penn. Mawanda-Kalema saw his first significant playing time in Brown's first games vs. Dartmouth and Harvard. He had a seven point spurt vs. Dartmouth that changed the game in Brown's favor, and came back with a 14 points vs. Harvard. Mawanda-Kalema, who missed all but one game last year due to injury had previously scored 11 points vs. Salve Regina.
Head Coach Mike Martin – Ivy League Coach of the Year:Former Brown basketball standout Mike Martin '04, the 31st head men's basketball coach in the program's 111-year history, was named the 2019 Ivy League Coach of the Year. He has changed the direction and culture of the program in six years as head coach of the Bears, with the building blocks in place to develop an Ivy Championship team. Martin's 2018-19 squad has won a school record 20 games, eclipsing the mark of 19 wins by Brown's 2008 team, and earning a berth in the Roman College Basketball Invitational. He assembled a young and talented 2018-19 squad that includes Obi Okolie '19, the 2019 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, and set new school records for non-league wins (12) and home wins (13).  Martin took over the reins of the program in 2012-13 and was named a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award as the nation's outstanding first-year head coach after leading the Bears to a turnaround season with a 13-15 overall record, including a fourth-place finish in the Ivy standings with a 7-7 mark after winning four of its last five games. Martin's 2013-14 team posted a 15-14 overall record and hosted Brown's first-ever postseason game, playing Holy Cross in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament at the Pizzitola Sports Center. In addition, he guided two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year Cedric Kuakumensah, the Ivy League's all-time leader in blocked shots. A four-year starter at Brown, Martin was part of the winningest class in Bears' basketball history, posting a 63-45 four-year record from 2000-04. He also helped the Class of 2004 to a school-record 39-17 Ivy League mark during that period -- the best by an Ivy League team, other than Penn and Princeton, since 1970. An Agawam, Mass., native, Martin launched his coaching career at Brown as an assistant coach in 2005-06, and was an assistant coach at Penn from 2006-12.
Newcomers:Coach Martin welcomes four talented newcomers to College Hill, including 6-8 freshman forward Davis Franks (New York, NY), 6-9 freshman forward Jaylan Gainey (Goldsboro, NC), 6-6 freshman guard David Mitchell (Roxbury, MA) and 6-0 freshman guard Thomas Shaughnessy (Needham, MA).

He netted 11 points vs. Salve Regina on 3-of-3 shooting from the field, while grabbing four rebounds. Howard scored 10 points vs. Sacred Heart and just missed a double-double vs. Army with eight points and 10 rebounds.  He earned 16 starts for the Bears a year ago and averaged 5.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Hunsaker In The Backcourt:Junior guard and two-year captain Zach Hunsaker (North Salt Lake City, UT), a Second Team Academic All-American, is averaging 6.0 ppg. Hunsaker, an Economics/Portuguese concentrator with a 4.0 GPA, logged 34 minutes against UAB in the opening round of the CBI, scoring 12 points for the Bears. He scored 11 points against Cornell where he connected on 4-of-6 field goals, including 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc. Hunsaker netted nine points vs. Penn and came back with 10 points in a win over Princeton, connecting on 3-of-5 field goals. He tossed in 13 points vs. Yale on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, connecting on 3-of-4 treys. Hunsaker scored nine points and handed out five assists in a win over Canisius. He had four rebounds and three assists vs. San Diego State and scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out three assists vs. Stony Brook.  Hunsaker netted 10 points and grabbed four rebounds vs. Maine and had seven points and three rebounds in Brown's win over Marist. He connected on a key trey in Brown's win over Sacred Heart and netted 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field vs. Army. He tossed in seven points vs. Bryant and nine points vs. Salve Regina. Last year, Hunsaker ranked second on the Brown team in treys (46) and assists (46) and ranked third on the Brown team with 9.7 points per game. Hunsaker, who connected on a coast-to-coast game buzzer beater vs. Dartmouth at the buzzer last year, scored a career high 21 points vs. Bryant last year, knocking down 5-of-10 treys.

Fuller Up:  Senior forward Travis Fuller (Encinitas, CA) registered a season high nine points vs. Johnson & Wales, while pulling down three rebounds. He scored four points against Army in the Brown Tip-Off Classic. Last year, Fuller earned three starts and posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds against LIU Brooklyn. He finished the season with an average of 3.2 rebounds per game.

Okolie, Sullivan and Hunsaker Repeat As Brown Basketball Captains:   Brown men's basketball head coach Mike Martin announced that senior Obi Okolie, senior Chris Sullivan and junior Zach Hunsaker have been elected tri-captains of the 2018-19 team for the second straight season.

Obi Okolie – Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year:  Bears' senior guard Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario) was named the Ivy League's Defensive Player of the Year and earned Second Team All-Ivy honors. Okolie exploded for a career high 26 points in the first round of the CBI, knocking down a career best seven treys (7-of-14). He scored in double figures in 13 of Brown's 14 Ivy League games, and is recognized as one of the top defensive stoppers in the Ivy League, averaging 12.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. He recently scored his 1,000thcareer point after netting 14 points and matching his career high with nine rebounds in Brown's win over Cornell. He now has 1,053 career points, 25thbest in Brown history. Okolie scored 16 points against Harvard and 14 points vs. Dartmouth, but more importantly, shut down the top two three-point shooters in the Ivy League, holding Harvard's Bryce Aiken and Dartmouth's Brendan Barry to a combined 2-of-13 in three-point shooting and 9-of-26 shooting from the field. He scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Cornell in Ithaca, and came back with 16 points and five rebounds vs. Columbia in New York City. Okolie exploded for a career high 25 points vs. Penn, hitting 9-of-11 field goals, and then came back with 18 points in Brown's win over Princeton. He scored a game high 15 points in Brown's win over Dartmouth and played a pivotal defensive role, and came back with 12 points and eight rebounds vs. Harvard. Okolie netted 14 points in Brown's Ivy opener vs. Yale and added 10 points in the rematch with the Bulldogs. He scored 12 points, handed out three assists and grabbed four rebounds vs. Johnson & Wales and had 15 points and grabbed four rebounds in Brown's win over Canisius.  He scored 13 points with 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the three-point arc, grabbed four rebounds and handed out five assists in Brown's win over San Diego State. Okolie tossed in 10 points on perfect 4-of-4 shooting against Marist after scoring 14 points and grabbing five rebounds in Brown's win over Stony Brook.  He found his stroke vs. Butler with 11 points, knocking down a career high three treys on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc. Choh – Ivy League's Leading Rebounder:  Sophomore forward Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) was named a Second Team All-Ivy selection after leading the Ivy League in rebounding (8.8 per game), and ranking 11th in FG percentage (.504), 10th in blocked shots (0.9 per game) and fifth in assists (3.4 apg.). His 9.5 rebounds per game in league games led the Ivy League, and he has posted 11 double-doubles on the season. Choh just missed a triple-double against UAB in the first round of the CBI with 10 points, 11 rebounds and a career high eight assists. He scored a career high 25 points vs. Columbia, while adding nine rebounds, and had 11 rebounds and six rebounds vs. Cornell. Choh posted consecutive double-doubles in Brown's sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth with 11 points and 10 rebounds vs. the Crimson and 14 points and 11 rebounds vs. the Big Green. He registered a double-double vs. Cornell on the road with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and netted a game high 22 points vs. Columbia. Sullivan Earns Starting Role:Senior guard and two-year team captain Chris Sullivan (Wilmette, IL) has been effective coming off the bench to provide a defensive presence for the Bears. He earned a starting role vs. UAB in the first round of the CBI, scoring 11 points, handing out two assists and making two steals. Sullivan may have been the difference in Brown's win over Dartmouth with a career high 13 points, connecting on 5-of-6 field goals, including 3-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc. He tossed in seven points in Brown's second game vs. Yale, and had four points at home vs. Princeton.  Sullivan had three points and three rebounds vs. Stony Brook and netted three points and two rebounds vs. Maine. He knocked down a trey and had two assists vs. Navy, scored four points vs. NJIT and registered 11 points vs. UMass Lowell. Last year, he helped the Bears topple UMass Lowell with 11 points, connecting on 3-of-3 treys. He is the third Sullivan brother to play for Brown, following in the footsteps of brothers Peter '11 and Matt '13.

Mitchell Contributes:Freshman guard David Mitchell (Roxbury, MA) has seen more playing time than any freshman on the Brown team and is a steady contributor. He tossed in four points vs. UAB in the first round of the CBI. Mitchell matched his career high with eight rebounds at Penn in Brown's final regular season game. He tossed in six points and grabbed seven rebounds in Brown's win at Dartmouth. Mitchell had two points and five rebounds in Brown's second game vs. Yale. He scored a season high eight points vs. UMass Lowell. Mitchell pulled down a career high eight rebounds in a road win over Canisius. He contributed with seven points against Maine.

DeWolf Sidelined:  Sophomore forward Matt DeWolf (Barrington, RI) started 24-of-27 games for the Bears, and is averaging 3.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.  DeWolf was injured in the first 21 seconds in Brown's game vs. Columbia on 3/1/19 when he caught an elbow to his face region, and has not returned to the lineup. He had eight points and five rebounds in Brown's win over Harvard. DeWolf pulled down five rebounds vs. Cornell in Ithaca and a team high six rebounds vs. Columbia in New York City. He scored a career high 11 points vs. Johnson & Wales, connecting on 4-of-4 field goals, while grabbing six rebounds. He pulled down six rebounds vs. Butler and four rebounds vs. Stony Brook. DeWolf hit all three of his shots in scoring six points vs. Bryant. He had six points and four rebounds vs. Sacred Heart, and six points and six rebounds vs. Army. Brandon Anderson – 7th in Ivy League FT Percentage:  Junior guard Brandon Anderson (Mahwah, NJ) ranks seventh in the Ivy League in free throw percentage (.747) and is 9th in the Ivy League with 1.2 steals per game. Anderson, who missed Brown's opening CBI game against UAB, tossed in a season high 21 points and made three steals in Brown's win at Princeton. He had eight points vs. Columbia and 10 points vs. Cornell. Anderson had a big weekend in Brown's sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth, scoring 13 points vs. the Crimson and a season high 21 points against the Big Green.  He provided a spark coming off the bench vs. Columbia, scoring six points and grabbing two rebounds. Anderson, who had eight points in Brown's first game vs. Yale, tossed in nine points in Brown's win over Canisius. He hit 6-of-6 free throws in scoring eight points against Maine. Anderson scored nine points vs. San Diego State and had five points and five assists vs. Marist. He matched his career high with seven assists vs. Navy while adding 10 points. Christian Berardi Drafted By Brown Basketball Through Team IMPACT:Boston-headquartered national nonprofit Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of a team, along with Brown University Men's Basketball, held a special Draft Day celebration for 7-year-old Christian Berardi of North Providence, RI on November 13 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Christian  was diagnosed in 2014 with Eosphilic Esophagitis and Malignant Hyperthermia.  Through Team IMPACT's program at Brown, the top recruit will become an official member of the men's basketball team. As a team member, Christian will attend the Bears' practices, games, team dinners, events, and more.Â

Mawanda-Kalema Earns Career Scoring High: Sophomore guard George Mawanda-Kalema (Burke, VA), who is averaging 4.9 points per game, contributed five points in Brown's first round CBI win over UAB. He tossed in 14 points vs. Cornell on the road with 4-of-5 shooting from the field.  Mawanda-Kalema netted eight points in Brown's win over Harvard and added six points vs. Dartmouth. He exploded for a career high 19 points in Brown's win over Princeton, connecting on 8-of-13 field goals, and had six points vs. Penn. Mawanda-Kalema saw his first significant playing time in Brown's first games vs. Dartmouth and Harvard. He had a seven point spurt vs. Dartmouth that changed the game in Brown's favor, and came back with a 14 points vs. Harvard. Mawanda-Kalema, who missed all but one game last year due to injury had previously scored 11 points vs. Salve Regina.
Head Coach Mike Martin – Ivy League Coach of the Year:Former Brown basketball standout Mike Martin '04, the 31st head men's basketball coach in the program's 111-year history, was named the 2019 Ivy League Coach of the Year. He has changed the direction and culture of the program in six years as head coach of the Bears, with the building blocks in place to develop an Ivy Championship team. Martin's 2018-19 squad has won a school record 20 games, eclipsing the mark of 19 wins by Brown's 2008 team, and earning a berth in the Roman College Basketball Invitational. He assembled a young and talented 2018-19 squad that includes Obi Okolie '19, the 2019 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, and set new school records for non-league wins (12) and home wins (13).  Martin took over the reins of the program in 2012-13 and was named a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award as the nation's outstanding first-year head coach after leading the Bears to a turnaround season with a 13-15 overall record, including a fourth-place finish in the Ivy standings with a 7-7 mark after winning four of its last five games. Martin's 2013-14 team posted a 15-14 overall record and hosted Brown's first-ever postseason game, playing Holy Cross in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament at the Pizzitola Sports Center. In addition, he guided two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year Cedric Kuakumensah, the Ivy League's all-time leader in blocked shots. A four-year starter at Brown, Martin was part of the winningest class in Bears' basketball history, posting a 63-45 four-year record from 2000-04. He also helped the Class of 2004 to a school-record 39-17 Ivy League mark during that period -- the best by an Ivy League team, other than Penn and Princeton, since 1970. An Agawam, Mass., native, Martin launched his coaching career at Brown as an assistant coach in 2005-06, and was an assistant coach at Penn from 2006-12.
