PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Frank Caprio (Providence, R.I.) drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Brown baseball team rallied past Fairfield, 9-8, to close out the four-game series Sunday afternoon at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.

Brown (3-11) totaled ten hits and scored three runs in the final three frames to earn the comeback win and split the series. Fairfield dropped to 4-10 on the season.

"I'm very proud of how our players battled through the middle innings today to band together and finish the game," said head coach Grant Achilles. "Frankie had two clutch at-bats, and Cal did a great job to slam the door for the last six outs."

Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.), Cameron Deere (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) paced the offense with two hits apiece. Phillips and Deere each drove in two runs, while Deere hit his first home run of the season, giving the Bears four homers against Fairfield in the series.

Calvin Farris (San Diego, Calif.) came in from right field to earn the win on the mound as he pitched two scoreless innings. Rookie Ryan Kuntz (Minneapolis, Minn.) went 4.2 innings as the starter with four earned runs and three strikeouts. Bryson Cafaro was handed the loss for the Stags.

Fairfield scored one run in the first, but the Bears responded with two in the second, as Deere launched a two-run homer over the left field fence. After the Stags evened the score in the top of the third, Brown came back with four runs on three hits and one error in the bottom half, highlighted by Phillips and Rich Ciufo (Medford, N.Y.) with RBI hits.

Fairfield used back-to-back three-run innings in the fifth and sixth to move out in front, 8-6.

The Bears tied the game with two runs in the seventh as Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) and Phillips hit consecutive RBI singles with two outs. Deere then hit a two-out double in the eighth before Caprio dropped a single to right field to drive home the winning run.

Farris finished the job in the top of the ninth to pick up his first win of the season.

Brown will open Ivy League play next weekend when it hosts Yale for a three-game series.
