
Men’s Hockey Heads to Quinnipiac for ECAC Quarterfinals

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team visit No. 5 and top-seeded Quinnipiac in the ECAC Quarterfinals for a best-of-three series this weekend (March 15-17) in Hamden Conn. Links to live stats and video will be available at brownbears.com.

About the ECAC Tournament
The 12-team ECAC postseason features a best-of-three series format in the first round and quarterfinals, played at campus sites, before single elimination in the semifinal and championship games at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid. Teams will be re-seeded after each round so that the highest seed plays the lowest seed.
Last Time Out
Brown swept ninth-seeded Princeton in a first round series at Meehan Auditorium to open the ECAC Tournament. Gavin Nieto backstopped Brown to a 3-0 win in the first game with 21 saves for his second shutout of the season. Chris Berger scored the game winner in the second period before Max Gottlieb and Justin Jallen added goals in the third. Brown completed the sweep the following night with a win in triple overtime, 6-5, in the longest game in program history. Princeton scored three extra-attacker goals to force overtime, setting the stage for Alex Brink, who scored the game winner 3:30 into triple overtime to secure the sweep. Brown outshot Princeton, 90-61, in the series. Brink (1-2-3) and Brent Beaudoin (0-3-3) led the Bears in points, while Nieto posted a .918 save percentage over the two games.
Brown All-Time in the ECAC Quarterfinals
Since the first season that the ECAC hosted a Quarterfinal Round of the playoffs (1961-62), Brown has played in the Quarterfinals 24 times. The Bears were 4-7-0 in single-elimination games between 1961-62 and 1981-82, when the League switched to a best-of-three series for the Quarterfinals. The 1991-92 season was also single-elimination for the Quarterfinals, with Brown losing its only game. In best-of-three games, Brown is 10-18-1, winning the series five times (1993, 1994, 2003, 2010, 2013).
Scouting Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac, the top seed in the ECAC Tournament, earned a bye in the first round and will host Brown in a best-of-three quarterfinal series this weekend. The Bobcats (25-7-2) enter the series ranked No. 5 in the latest USCHO national poll and were co-champions of the ECAC regular season along with Cornell. Odeen Tufto is ranked second in the league in scoring with 15-27-42 in 34 games at 1.24 points per game. The Bobcats have eight skaters with at least 20 points this season. Andrew Shortridge is 17-4-2 in net this season and leads the nation in goals-against average (1.39) and save percentage (.944) with four shutouts. Quinnipiac owns the top scoring offense in the league at 3.71 goals per game as well as the top defense, limiting opponents to 1.85 goals per game. The Bobcats are 27 percent on the power play.

Quinnipiac holds a 24-8-6 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams. The two teams split during the regular series as each side won on the road. Brown downed Quinnipiac in Hamden, 4-1, as Beaudoin, Brink, Berger and Jack Gessert all scored in the win.
Brown vs. QU in the Playoffs
The Bears have played Quinnipiac five times in the ECAC Playoffs, most recently in 2017, when the Bobcats swept a first round series. The two teams met in 2013, when the Bears topped the top-seeded Bobcats, 4-0, in the conference semifinals. Brown previously played QU during the First Round in 2008, 2011 and 2012. The Bobcats hosted all three of those series, sweeping the weekend in 2008 and 2011. In 2012, Quinnipiac came back with wins in game two and three after falling in game one.
Marathon at Meehan
Brown's triple overtime win against Princeton in game two of the ECAC First Round was the longest game in program history and 18th longest in men's division I history at 103:30 total minutes. It was also the longest in Princeton's history, making up two of the oldest programs in college hockey, as Alex Brink netted the game winner 3:30 into the third overtime period.
Road Warriors
Brown will head to Quinnipiac for the quarterfinals after finishing with a strong road record to close out the regular season. Brown went 6-2 on the road in the second half of the season, including a 4-1 victory at Quinnipiac, and outscored opponents by a 21-13 margin during that span.
Facing Off
Rookie Tristan Crozier put together a strong weekend at the faceoff dot against Princeton in the first round as he went 33-15 for a .688 percentage. Brent Beaudoin and Jack Gessert also posted .550 and .530, respectively.
Schoo Scores Two
Defenseman Brady Schoo scored twice in Brown's victory over Princeton in game two of the first round to clinch the series sweep. It was the first time a Brown defenseman scored twice in a game since Joey de Concilys '15 against Providence in 2015.
Nieto in Net
Gavin Nieto posted his second shutout of the season and third of his career in a 3-0 win over Princeton to open the first round playoff series. He backstopped the Bears to a series sweep with a 1.83 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage in 163:30 minutes, including a 35-save performance in triple overtime to clinch game two of the series.
Marchin Along
Tommy Marchin leads the Bears in goals (9), assists (15) and points (24), and has a team high eight goals since the start of January, highlighted by a seven-game point streak. Brown is 11-5-2 when he scores a point this season.
