PRINCETON, N.J. – Colin Burston (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Chris Berger (Buffalo, N.Y.) both scored in the third period to lift the Brown men's hockey team over Princeton as the Bears claimed a 4-2 road win Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Brown (9-10-3, 6-6-3 ECAC) earned its third road win in the last four games, and improved to 7-3 over the last ten games, while Princeton moved to 6-14-2, 4-10-1.
Justin Jallen (St. Paul, Minn.) and Max Gottlieb (Old Bridge, N.J.) also scored for the Bears, while Gottlieb and Burston added assists for the two-point efforts. Luke Kania (Chicago, Ill.) made 32 stops to pick up the win in net. Ryan Ferland had 23 saves for the Tigers.
"We played a very good game from start to finish but really ramped it up in the third," said head coach Brendan Whittet. "We played to our identity. We played the game really hard, with a lot of compete and a lot of drive to come out of here with two points. That's a good hockey team. They have some elite players and I thought we did a good job."
Brown took advantage of an early power-play opportunity 20 seconds into the game when Brent Beaudoin (Londonderry, N.H.) sent a pass across the slot to Jallen for the quick strike past Ferland. Corey Andonovski answered back for Princeton at 14:39 to even the score at the first intermission.
Alex Riche pushed the Tigers in front at 7:32 in the middle period when he scored 3:40 into a 5-minute power play for the one-goal lead.
Gottlieb tied the game for the Bears at 14:26 in the second period when he ripped a shot from the high slot through traffic to make it 2-2 after 40 minutes.
Brown gained the lead at 11:47 in the third period as Burston notched his third goal of the season. Jack Gessert (Novi, Mich.) banked the puck off the boards to Ben Taylor (Falmouth, Mass.), who raced down into the offensive end and flicked a pass to the crease, before Burston crashed the net and beat Ferland for the 3-2 advantage.
Berger sealed the win for the Bears at 18:46. Tristan Crozier (Calgary, Alberta) blasted a shot on a 2-on-1 that was denied by Ferland, but Berger was there to clean up the rebound for his third of the season.
Brown will take on No. 4 Quinnipiac tomorrow night in Hamden, Conn.
