
Track & Field Set for Ivy Heptagonal Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's and women's track & field teams will compete in the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships this Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24 at Gordon Track in Cambridge, Mass. Events are scheduled to start Saturday morning at 11 AM.

Brown Outlook
The men's team placed third at Heps last season, while Princeton captured the Ivy Championship. Jason Katz, who was named the Field Performer on the Meet at last year's championship, will look to defend his title in the long jump. Owen Russell owns the second-best mark in the weight throw this outdoor season after he broke his own school record (71-10.25) at the Beantown Challenge and was runner-up in the event in 2018.

Rookie Calvin Perkins will look to contend for points in the 500 meters after he posted a time of 1:03.96 at the New England Championships, while Bretram Rogers has put together top finishes in the 60-meter hurdles throughout the season. Zachary Lanigan owns a top-five time in the 800 meters among Ivy runners. Cameron Daly will pace the distance group after he secured a time of 8:02.39 in the 3,000 meters at the BU Terrier Classic.

The women's side placed seventh last time around while Penn claimed the 2018 title. Carly Paul is back to defend her individual pentathlon title after she totaled 4,013 points last winter. Paul also cleared 5-8.75 in the high jump at the Terrier Classic, while Ijeoma Uche owns the top mark in the long jump this season after a school-record setting performance of 20-3. Zion Lewis and Kendra Offiaeli head into Heps with top-three marks in the triple jump and shot put, respectively. Â

May Stern has put together a strong indoor campaign and heads into the weekend with a top-five times in both the 400 and 500 meters among Ivy participants, while Bailey Pate added a solid finish in the 500 meters during the season.

Regional Rankings
The women's and men's teams enter championship weekend ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, out of 38 total programs in the latest USTFCCCA weekly rankings.

After Heps, the Bears will continue their indoor seasons at the ECAC/IC4A Championships the following weekend.
