Gymnastics Wins Home Tri-Meet with Season-High 193.900

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Bears' gymnasts won the all-around, vault, bars, and floor titles as Brown University gymnastics took first place with a season-high 193.900 at a tri-meet with Southern Connecticut State University and Rhode Island College on Sunday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
The Bears eclipsed the 193 mark for the first time this season, defeating the visiting SCSU Owls (191.675) and RIC Anchorwomen (182.800).
"We really put it all together today," Brown head coach Sara Carver-Milne said. "We had outstanding performances on all four events, and I'm very happy with the way the team is progressing."
Freshman Sophia Petrillo (Stoneham, Mass.) won the all-around for the second consecutive week behind a career-high 38.425. Freshman Mei Li Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) captured her fourth vault title of the year with a 9.750, sophomore Kate Nelson (Montara, Calif.) captured her second bars title of the year with a career-high 9.850, and senior Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) earned her second floor title of the year behind a 9.800.
As a team, Brown scored a season-high 48.875 on bars, approaching the program record of 48.900. The Bears tallied season highs on vault (48.300) and floor (48.525) and added a 48.200 on beam.
On vault, Costa took the title with her 9.750 while sophomore Alyssa Gardner (Angola, N.Y.) came in second with a 9.700, tying her season high. Green and senior Gabrielle Hechtman (Bellmore, N.Y.) each scored a 9.675, matching a season high for Green. Nelson and Petrillo chipped in a 9.500 and 9.475 respectively.
The Bears captured the top four spots on bars with Nelson pacing the Bears with her career-best 9.850 for first place. Costa came in second with a 9.825, Petrillo finished third with a personal-best 9.775, and sophomore Emma Hansen (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed fourth with a season-high 9.725. Sophomore Caroline Warren (Pawleys Island, S.C.) and Gardner each scored career highs with a 9.700 and 9.675 apiece.
On beam, senior Cassidy Jung (San Marino, Calif.) scored a team-high 9.700 for second place, and Green notched a season-best 9.675 for third. Hansen registered a 9.650, sophomore Rose Domonoske (Park City, Utah) posted a 9.625, and senior Morgan Hagenbuch (Norwich, N.Y.) tacked on a 9.550.
Green led Brown on floor with her first-place score of 9.800. Petrillo followed with a 9.725, tying her career high, and Domonoske recorded a personal-best 9.700. Gardner and freshman Abby Walsh (White Lake, Mich.) both scored a 9.650, marking a career high for Gardner.
Prior to the meet, Brown recognized its 2014 ECAC and Ivy Classic championship team. In 2014, the Bears won their first ECAC title in program history and won the Ivy Classic for just the second time since 1990.
At the conclusion of the meet, the Bears welcomed athletes from the Special Olympics Gymnastics Team from the Gymnastics Learning Center in Shrewsbury, Mass., for a special performance. Brown gymnastics alumna Lauren Hall '13 serves as a coach with the program.
Next, Brown competes at Yale on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
