BOSTON, Mass. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team competed at the Boston Winter Open on Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Aquatics Center - Competition Pool.
"We were happy to be able to bring a select group of our team to the Boston Winter Open," said head coach Chris Ip. "Any opportunity to compete against out-of-conference teams provides valuable experience for our swimmers. These invitations also allow the coaching staff more time to connect with a small group of athletes and provide valuable preparation feedback on race strategies."
The Bears sent five swimmers to the invite: freshmen Billy Knaul (Sudbury, Mass.), Andrew Boden (Bellevue, Wash.), Daniel Alber (Newton, Mass.) and Henry Lucco (Bellevue, Wash.), as well as junior Troy Li (Carmel, Ind.).
Li began the meet with a lifetime best swim in the 200 IM (1:50.55), placing first overall. His swim was good enough for 16th all-time in program history. Li would also go on to season-best swims in the 50 (21.12), 100 (46.12) and 200 freestyle (1:40.39). His 50.75 in the 100 butterfly was a life-time best swim.
Boden swam to season-best times in the 50 (21.20) and 100 freestyle (46.24). He also added a season-best time in the 100 butterfly (50.71).
Alber swam to season-best times of 57.95 in the 100 breaststroke, 50.50 in the 100 butterfly, and 46.31 in the 100 freestyle.
Lucco competed in the 50 freestyle (21.93), 200 freestyle (1:41.44), 100 butterfly (50.51) and 200 butterfly (1:51.20) over the course of the meet, adding season-best times in each event. His 1:51.20 in the 200 butterfly puts him on the Brown top-25 list for the event.
Knaul added a program top-25 all-time performance in the 100 backstroke (49.34) and 200 butterfly (1:51.87). His time of 49.34 in the 100 backstroke sits as a top-10 all-time performance at Brown.
The Bears next host the Ivy League Championships at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center Wednesday, Feb. 27 through Saturday, March 2.
