Golash Paces Fencing at 2019 Ivy League Round-Robins

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Signe Golash paced the Bears with a 12-6 overall record as Brown University fencing completed competition on the second and final day of the 2019 Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins at Yale University's Lanman Center on Sunday.
"The 2018-19 regular season campaign drew to a close today at the second day of the Ivy League Round-Robins at Yale," Brown head coach Alex Ripa said. "The team fought bravely and gave it their all over a tough weekend. Every one of these athletes are champions in my eyes. We're excited to head to regionals, and are already focused on next season!"

Golash (Syracuse, N.Y.) – a 2018 NCAA qualifier – totaled a team-high 12 wins, came in a tie for seventh place in women's sabre, and finished with a +13 indicator, outscoring her opponents, 72-59. Her efforts helped the Bears' women's sabre squad earn a 6-3 win over Yale.
Sophomore Sofija Podvisocka (Dublin, Calif.) finished 8-10 in women's epee, and freshman Anna Susini (Lexington, Ky.) went 7-10 in women's foil.

On the men's side, senior Umar Masood (Pittsford, N.Y.) and freshman Timmy Frank (Portland, Ore.) each finished 6-9 in men's foil and men's epee respectively. Sophomore Sean Feeney (Riverside, R.I.) posted four wins in men's sabre.

Columbia claimed both the men's and women's team titles, finishing 5-0 on the men's side and 6-0 on the women's side.

As a team on Sunday, the Brown men fell to No. 5 Princeton (21-6), No. 2 Harvard (23-4), and No. 6 Yale (26-1). The Brown women dropped decisions to No. 6 Princeton (21-6), No. 7 Harvard (20-7), and Yale (19-8).

Next, Brown will compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Sunday, March 10 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., with Columbia University hosting the event at Vassar College.
