
Women’s Hockey Welcomes RPI and Union for Home Opening Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will host its first home games of 2019-20, welcoming Rensselaer and Union to Meehan Auditorium on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9, respectively. Friday's game with start at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's puck drop will be at 3:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
RPI enters the weekend with a 0-8-1 overall record and a 0-2-0 mark in ECAC play. The Engineers' lone tie came at Holy Cross, 2-2, on Oct. 27. RPI was edged in its matchups last weekend to St. Lawrence (2-1) and No. 5/6 Clarkson (5-4). Two players are tied for the team's point lead (4) - with Blake Orosz pacing the team in goals (3) while Savring Repaci has the team-high in assists (3). Two freshmen have split up the goaltending duties, with Ena Nystrøm leading the duo with six games started, a 2.81 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE DUTCHWOMEN
Union is 0-7-1 so far this season and 0-1-0 in the ECAC. The Dutchwomen got shutout in their last two games, falling to both Syracuse, 5-0 (Oct. 29), and No. 5/6 Clarkson, 4-0 (Nov. 1). Union's tie this year came at Lindenwood (2-2) on Oct. 19. Katelynn Russ and Olivia Grouix both lead the team in scoring, with three points, on two goals and one assist apiece. Two goalies have seen action this year, with Bella McKee leading in games started (5), goals-against average (2.77) and save percentage (.934).
BROWN TALKING POINTS
Under the guidance of second-year head coach Carisa Zaban Wahlig, the Bears look to continue making strides in the highly competitive ECAC in 2019-20. The Bears boasts nine underclassmen and an experienced junior and senior class that is comprised of 10 student-athletes. Sophomore Shay Maloney is the team's top returning point scorer from 2018-19, with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Named the team MVP following the season, Maloney led the Bears with three power-play goals and also ranked third in blocked shots (58). All three of Brown's netminders from last season return, with sophomore Hayley Kliczko and senior Calla Isaac starting 14 and 13 games, respectively.
Maloney leads the team in scoring so far this season with two goals and one assist for three points. Her three-game point streak came to an end on Tuesday at UConn. Prior to the contest against the Huskies, Maloney had goals in back-to-back games. Junior Darby Melia is second in scoring with two points (2G). Calla Isaac leads the netminding group with four games played and a .899 save percentage. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native stopped a career-best 55 shots last weekend at Harvard (Nov. 1).
SHUTOUT FOR SEIZURES
Saturday's contest against Union will be the team's Shutouts for Seizures (SoS) game. SoS is a fundraising initiative that occurs all hockey season long in efforts to raise seizure and epilepsy awareness alongside donations for research in hopes of one day finding a cure. ROAD WARRIORS
The Bears open the 2019-20 season with five-straight away games, starting with a non-conference series versus RIT on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26. Brown will then open ECAC play on away ice, at Harvard (Friday, Nov. 1) and Dartmouth (Saturday, Nov. 2). The Bears close out the road swing with a non-conference contest at UConn on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Brown plays just four games at Meehan Auditorium in the first half of the season while the Bears will have nine home games in the second half of their campaign.
LAST YEAR VS. RENSSELAER
RPI snuck away with two 1-0 wins in last year's contests. Lauren Severson's power-play goal at 12:24 of the second period was the difference in game one on Nov. 9 in Troy, N.Y. while Kendra Farole had the power-play score and only tally in game two at 6:01 of the third on Jan. 26 at Meehan Auditorium.
LAST YEAR VS. UNION
The two teams battled to a 2-2 overtime tie on Nov. 10 in game one at Union while the Dutchwomen won the final, 3-1, on Jan. 25 in Providence. Junior Darby Melia and sophomore Tina Paolillo scored goals in the first matchup - both in the third period to tie the game - and sophomore Shay Maloney recorded a tally in the closing contest.
THE ECAC/IVY LEAGUE ON ESPN
