
Women’s Hockey Falls to Providence in Mayor’s Cup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Providence, 10-0, in the 25th Mayor's Cup on Saturday at Schneider Arena. The Friars improve their lead in the Mayor's Cup series to 12-10-3 with the win.
Providence (8-6-2) scored three goals in both the first and second period and tallied four in the third.
Lauren DeBlois gave the Friars their first score of the game at 6:08 of the opening period. Isabelle Hardy (8:27) and Sara Hjalmarsson (11:01, power play) followed with scores in the stanza. Each team had on power-play chance with Providence capitalizing on Hjalmarsson's goal.
Hayley Lunny netted two scores at 5:09 and 9:50 of the second while Meaghan Rickard (PP) also put in a goal (7:06) in the second frame.
Brown (1-10-0) had two power-play opportunities in the second and junior Abby Nearis (Beverly, Mass.) has a good look on net but the Bears were shutout. The Friars went 1-for-1 on special teams.
Hjalmarsson opened the third with two straight at 00:24 (PP) and 6:02, respectively. Whitney Dove (10:40) and Ariane Julien (12:51, PP) closed out the game's scoring.
The third saw the Friars go 2-for-2 on the power play while Brown was 0-for-1.
Sophomore Hayley Kliczko (Niles, Ill.) ended the contest with 29 saves while senior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) recorded seven stops in between the pipes.
Providence's Clare Minnerath recorded the win in net with 13 saves while Katrina Broccoli turned away three shots in the third.
Brown next closes out the first half of the season on home ice, welcoming Dartmouth and Harvard to Meehan Auditorium on Friday, Dec. 6 (6:00 p.m.) and Saturday, Dec. 7 (3:00 p.m.), respectively.
