Women’s Tennis Ends Play at Brown Quad

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team concluded the Brown Quad on Sunday at the Brown Varsity Tennis Courts. Players from Boston University, Dartmouth, UMass and Yale competed in the two-day tournament. The Bears closed out the invite winning all three of their singles matches on Sunday.

Freshman Gabriella Dellacono (Stonington, Conn.) won all three of her matches in the tournament in her first collegiate action. The rookie picked up a 6-2, 7-6 (0) win in match one on Saturday and had a 6-2, 6-2 victory in her second. Dellacono then won her match on Sunday when her opponent defaulted.

After a first match defeat, sophomore Julia Newman (Natick, Mass.) won her second, 6-2, 7-5, and concluded her draw with a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Junior Peri Sheinin (East Greenwich, R.I.) also split her first day matches, winning her initial (6-0, 6-3) before falling 6-7 (4), 6-0, 10-7. Sheinin took her match on Sunday with a score of 7-6, 2-6, 10-7.

Doubles on day one saw Newman and Sheinin take down a BU team, 6-2. After falling 7-6 in their first match on Sunday, the duo came back to end the tournament with a 6-3 win over Yale.

The Bears next conclude the fall season by hosting the Brown Classis Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 3.
