
Men’s Hockey Heads to Yale for Saturday Night Matchup

Bears continue five-game road swing at league-leading Bulldogs
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team will continue its five-game road stint this Saturday when the Bears visit ECAC league-leading Yale at 7 PM. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Matchup: Brown (8-9-3, 5-5-3 ECAC) at Yale (10-7-3, 8-4-1 ECAC)

Last Time Out
Brown picked up a pair of road wins in the New York Capital Region over the weekend as the Bears shutout Rensselaer, 3-0, and upset No. 16 Union, 3-2. The Bears scored all three goals against the Engineers in the third period, led by Brent Beaudoin with two scores, while Jack Gessert added a pair of assists. Gavin Nieto stopped 19 shots to earn his second career shutout and first of the season. Brown had three different goal scorers the following night at Union as rookie Michael Maloney scored the game winner with 3:32 left in regulation. Colin Burston and Jake Harris also scored and Nieto posted 26 saves for his seventh win of the season.
Scouting Yale
Yale heads into Saturday tied for first place in the ECAC standings, along with Cornell, at 8-4-1 in the league. The Bulldogs split a pair of league games last weekend, falling to Union in overtime, before a win at RPI. Joe Snively leads the Yale offense with 11 goals, 13 assists and 24 points. He also has three power-play goals with 17 points in ECAC play. Sam Tucker and Corbin Kaczperski have split time in net with ten starts apiece. Tucker leads the duo with a 2.30 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage. Yale is averaging 2.90 goals per game and is 20 percent on the power play.
Brown vs. Yale All-Time
Yale leads the all-time series with Brown, which dates back to the 1897-1898 season, by a 100-77-8 margin. Yale won the first meeting of the season, 3-2, in Providence. Tristan Crozier and Brady Schoo scored in the loss for the Bears.
Nieto, Harris Collect Weekly Honors
Gavin Nieto and Jake Harris were named the ECAC Goalie and Rookie of the Week (10/28) after helping the Bears to a road sweep at RPI and Union. Nieto posted his first shutout of the season with a 3-0 win at Rensselaer on Friday and then made 26 saves in a win over No. 16 Union the following night, including 13 stops in the third period. Harris recorded his first multiple-point effort of the season in the win over Union on Saturday. He scored the equalizer in the opening period and then assisted on the game winner late in the third, finishing the game with a +2 rating.
Road Sweep…
Brown earned a pair of road wins at Rensselaer and No. 16 Union to close out the month of January. It was the first weekend road sweep for the Bears since February of 2015, which was also at RPI and Union.
Road Shutout…
Gavin Nieto had 19 saves as Brown blanked Rensselaer, 3-0, for the program's first shutout win on the road since November 18, 2017, when the Bears topped Princeton, 3-0. Nieto also earned the win in that game behind a career-high 47 saves.
…Win Over Ranked on the Road
The Bears topped No. 16 Union, 3-2, to move to 2-0-1 against the Dutchmen this season, marking the first win against a ranked team on the road since the 2014-15 campaign. Brown beat Union earlier this season, when the Dutchmen were ranked No. 14 at the time, in the championship game of the Three Rivers Classic.
