
Women’s Hockey Travels to North Country to Face St. Lawrence and No. 6 Clarkson

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will hit the road for the first time in 2019 and head to North Country to face St. Lawrence on Friday, Jan. 18 and No. 6 Clarkson on Saturday, Jan. 19. Friday's game will begin at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's puck drop will be at 1:00 p.m. due to weather concerns (originally 3:00 p.m). Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence brings a record of 10-11-1 into the weekend and has a 5-5-0 mark in ECAC play. The Saints split last weekend with a 4-2 win at Union on Jan. 11 and a 3-2 overtime loss at Rensselaer on Jan. 12. Justine Reyes leads the team in assists (12) and points (17) and also has five goals. Rachael Smith is SLU's leader in goals with nine and ranks second on the team in points (15) with the addition of six assists. Two seniors have split goaltending duties with both Sonja Shelly and Grace Harrison starting 11 games. Shelly has a 2.13 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage, three shutouts and a 4-7-0 record. Harrison has recorded a 2.15 GAA, a .925 save percentage and one shutout for a 6-4-1 record. The Saints have the top penalty kill in the conference at 89.5% and have allowed just four power-play goals to their opponents.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson is ranked sixth in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls with a 16-5-1 overall record and a 7-3-0 showing in conference action. The Golden Knights won both of their games last weekend, defeating Rensselaer, 5-1, on Jan. 11 and shutting out Union, 6-0, on Jan.12. Prior to last weekend, Clarkson competed in a series against Northeastern in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The two teams battled to a 3-3 tie in game one on Jan. 5 while Northeastern won game two on Jan. 6, 3-1. Loren Gabel ranks first in the NCAA in goals per game (0.95) and points per game (1.89) while teammate Elizabeth Giguère is tops in assists per game (1.15). Giguère leads the team in points with 40, on 15 goals and 25 assists while Gabel is second in points with 37 on 19 goals and 18 assists. Michaela Pejzlová also has 30+ points with 14 goals and 21 assists for 35. Kassidy Sauvé has started 18 games between the pipes and has a 1.88 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage and three shutouts for a 13-4-1 record. As a team, Clarkson leads the ECAC in goals (85), assists (144), goals per game (3.86) and shorthanded goals (5). The Golden Knights are also a perfect 9-0-0 when playing at home this season.
BROWN LEADERS
Sena Hanson leads the Bears in scoring with 13 points on a team-best 10 goals and three assists. Freshman Shay Maloney (1-8-9) is tied for second on the team in scoring with fellow rookie Lizzy Gross (6-3-8) with nine points. Maloney paces the Bears in assists with eight. Junior Calla Isaac leads the netminder group in goals-against average (3.25), save percentage (.912) and shutouts (1). Isaac and freshman Hayley Kliczko have each appeared in eight games, with Kliczko recording a 4.02 GAA and a .893 save percentage. The rookie recorded a career-best 44 saves at Union on Nov. 10 in a 2-2 tie, which included four saves in overtime.
LAST TIME OUT
Brown was defeated in both games of a home-and-home series against Yale last weekend. The Bulldogs captured game one on their home ice, 5-2, on Friday, Jan. 11 before winning the finale, 4-1, at Meehan Auditorium on Saturday, Jan. 12. Freshman Lizzy Gross and sophomore Abby Nearis (PP) scored in the first contest while junior Veronica Alois tallied Brown's score in game two.
NEXT UP
The Bears return to Meehan Auditorium next weekend and will host Union on Friday, Jan. 25 and Rensselaer on Saturday, Jan. 26. Friday's game will begin at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's contest will start at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
