NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Senior Spencer Carroll scored a game-high four goals as Brown University men's water polo defeated Iona College, 15-9, on Sunday afternoon at Hynes Pool in its third and final Northeast Water Polo Conference game of the weekend.

The Bears (8-7, 1-2 NWPC) used a 4-0 run to take a 7-4 lead in the third quarter and gained a 13-7 edge in the fourth quarter behind another 4-0 burst on their way to the victory over the host Gaels (3-11, 0-4 NWPC).

Carroll (Newport Beach, Calif.) added five steals, an assist, and two ejections drawn to his four goals. Freshman Niko Bhatia (Los Altos, Calif.) tallied two goals and two assists, junior James Thygesen (Menlo Park, Calif.) totaled two goals, an assist, and a steal, and sophomore Aidan Reilly (Los Angeles, Calif.) netted two goals.

Junior Armen Deirmenjian (Beverly Hills, Calif.) contributed a goal, two assists, and four steals while junior Galen Hu (Colleyville, Texas) finished with a goal, two assists, and two ejections drawn.

Senior Santiago Nunez (Miami, Fla.) added a goal and two steals, freshman Matt Simko (Coral Gables, Fla.) tacked on a goal and two ejections drawn, and freshman Andrew Penner (Atherton, Calif.) scored a goal. Junior Hudson Rawlings (Murrieta, Calif.) chipped in three assists and four ejections drawn.

In the cage, sophomore goalkeeper Riad Hallal (Coronado, Calif.) made nine saves alongside an assist and a steal.

Thygesen opened the game's scoring, converting a 5-meter penalty shot, before a goal on the right wing from Reilly pushed Brown ahead 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.

A goal from Nunez gave Brown a 3-1 lead early in the second quarter before three straight goals from Iona provided the hosts with a 4-3 edge. Carroll responded with back-to-back goals to stake Brown to a 5-4 advantage at halftime.

Simko and Deirmenjian netted consecutive goals on the power play to open the third quarter as the Bears went ahead 7-4 behind a 4-0 run. After Iona, cut the lead to 7-6, Thygesen and Carroll converted consecutive goals to give Brown a 9-6 edge. A goal from Reilly put the Bears up 10-7 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Bears scored the first three goals of the final frame on markers from Carroll, Penner, and Bhatia as another 4-0 burst allowed Brown to establish a 13-7 lead with 4:26 remaining. Goals from Hu and Bhatia closed the scoring for the visitors.

Next, Brown continues NWPC play next weekend with games at No. 7 Harvard (Oct. 6, 10:00 a.m.), at MIT (Oct. 6, 5:00 p.m.), and at home vs. No. 12 Princeton (Oct. 7, 10:00 a.m.).
