PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Abby Carchio scored her second goal of the game 21 seconds into overtime to lift Brown University women's soccer to a 3-2 win over the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Tuesday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

In their final contest before Ivy League play begins, the Bears (4-4-1) continued a four-game unbeaten streak with their victory over the visiting River Hawks (2-5-3), notching their second overtime victory during their four-game home stand.

"Our team has been extremely dangerous in the attacking third in the last two games," Brown head coach Kia McNeill said. "Unfortunately, we let up a little bit in the back, which we need to clean up a bit as we head into Ivy play. It was a great finish from Abby to put the game on her shoulders, getting a goal early and getting the goal in overtime to give us the win.'

Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) netted her fourth and fifth goals of the season for a career-high four points while sophomore back Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) scored her second goal in as many games.

Sophomore Star White (Norfolk, Va.) and freshmen Charlotte DeVaughn (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Maesyn G'Bye (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) each tallied one assist.

Senior goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) made two saves in the win (3-4-1). She now has 30 career wins and 247 career saves.

Carchio gave the Bears the victory in the 91st minute as she fielded a throw-in from DeVaughn in the attacking third and lifted a shot over the head of the keeper for game winner at 90:21.

The Bears broke through in the 59th minute when Carchio scored her first of the game. White took the ball down the left side and flicked a cross off a UML defender, and Carchio stepped in for the quick strike to put the Bears on top, 1-0, at the 58:48 mark.

Cummings scored her second of the season less than three minutes later as she converted a one-timer off a corner kick by G'Bye for the quick two-goal advantage in the 62nd minute.

UMass Lowell netted two goals midway through the second half as Lily Fabian (76th minute) and Katelyn Viera (79th minute) scored back-to-back goals in a three-minute span to even the score.

For the match, Brown held advantages in shots (27-6), shots on goal (12-4), and corner kicks (11-3). In the second half, Brown led 16-2 in shots and 7-0 in corners.

UMass Lowell goalkeeper Julia Schneider made four saves in just over 45 minutes of action in the loss (2-5-1). Lauren Huff played the first half and posted four stops.
