Baseball Summer Ball Recap

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Players on the Brown University baseball team recently completed their respective summer ball seasons at several leagues across the country.

Rich Ciufo (Edenton Steamers – Coastal Plain League)
Ciufo enjoyed a strong summer for the Steamers in North Carolina, splitting time between the middle infield and third base, and represented the Steamers in the CPL All-Star Game. He led the team with 14 doubles and added five homers, 22 RBIs and 30 runs scored.

Garett Delano (Savannah Bananas – Coastal Plain League)
Delano, a pitcher and outfielder for the Bananas, provided seven doubles, 17 RBIs and 15 runs on offense during the summer. He also made seven appearances on the mound, earning two saves with just one run allowed in nine innings of work, primarily out of the bullpen.

Calvin Farris (Peninsula Oilers – Alaska Baseball League)
Farris made 12 appearances out of the bullpen for the Oilers, finishing with a 2.55 ERA, two wins and a pair of saves to just one walk. He also added 15 hits with three doubles at the plate.

Collin Garner (Gastonia Grizzlies – Coastal Plain League)
Garner started five of six games on the mound, finishing with a record of 2-2 over 23.2 innings to go along with 23 strikeouts.

Louis Gaitley (San Francisco Seals - Great West League)
Gaitley posted 13 hits and nine runs as an infielder for the Seals, adding three doubles and one homer with seven RBIs.

Willy Homza (Plymouth Pilgrims - New England Collegiate Baseball League)
Homza registered 25 runs and 24 RBIs over 35 games as a shortstop for Plymouth. He also added six homers and ranked second on the team with 24 walks.

Joe Lomuscio (Brockton Rox – Futures League)
Lomuscio, who earned a spot in the Futures League All-Star Game, finished the season with a .306 average and paced the club with seven triples. The outfielder also recorded 12 stolen bases, 28 runs and 26 RBIs.

Parke Phillips (Chico Heat – Great West League)
Phillips put together an impressive summer with Chico as the Heat captured the Great West Championship and he earned All-Star honors. The catcher ranked third in the team with a .357 batting average, including a team high 67 hits, and also tied for the team lead with 44 RBIs to go with 14 doubles and 33 runs.

Dalton Schroeder (San Francisco Seals - Great West League)
Schroeder played nine games in the outfield for San Francisco and finished with five runs scored and three stolen bases.

Brennan Vasquez (Brockton Rox – Futures League)
Vasquez provided both offense and pitching for Brockton, going 2-0 with a pair of saves on the mound, in addition to a .351 batting average over the course of 13 games.Â
