PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team smacked three home runs and Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) tossed 6.0 scoreless innings as the Bears blanked Princeton, 12-0, in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Murray Stadium.
Brown (7-15, 3-6) outhit the Tigers by a 10-5 margin and had four players post multiple-hit games. Princeton moved to 7-13, 4-2 in the Ivy League.
Cameron Deere (Los Angeles, Calif.) went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, recording his third straight multiple-hit game in the three-game series, and also added two runs. Hunter Carey (North Hampton, N.H.) had two hits, including a home run with three RBIs, while Mark Sluys (Gig Harbor, Wash.) added the other homer. Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) and Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) also posted two hits apiece.
Delano allowed just three hits over 6.0 innings with four strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season. JJ Sliepka (Houston, Texas), Grant Greeno (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Brennan Vasquez (Milton, Fla.) combined for three scoreless frames out of the pen.
Andrew Gnazzo was handed the loss for the Tigers behind seven earned runs over 4.0 innings.
Brown established an early lead with three runs in the second inning. After Deere scored on a groundout, Homza and Lomuscio had back-to-back RBI hits for the three-run lead. The Bears tacked on another run in the fourth when Jesper Horsted mishandled Homza's single in center field, allowing Carey to cross the plate.
The Bears kept it going with six runs on two hits in the sixth. After Princeton loaded the bases with no outs, Deere belted a grand slam over the left field fence for his first homer of the season. Carey added a two-run home run later in the frame for the ten-run lead.
Sluys added a solo shot in the seventh, before Lomuscio opened the eighth inning with a triple and then scored on a groundout to give the home side the 12-0 advantage. The Brown bullpen allowed just two hits over the final three frames to secure the shutout.
Brown will host Rhode Island on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 PM.
