
Brown Men's Lacrosse Gains Ivy Tournament Berth With 20-6 Win Over Dartmouth

Providence, R.I. - Needing a win to secure a spot in next week's Ivy League Tournament, the Brown men's lacrosse team responded with a 20-6 Senior Day victory over Dartmouth behind three goals by junior Jackson Newsome (Arlington, VA) Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
The win gives Brown its fourth straight trip to the tournament and the third seed in next week's Ivy League Tournament, hosted by Columbia, on Friday, May 4, facing second-seeded Cornell at 8:30 pm at Wein Stadium. The winner of the Ivy Tournament gains the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA), junior Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA), senior Carson Song (Charlotte, NC) and freshman Riley Stewart (Darien, CT) had two goals each for the Bears. Sophomore Jack Kniffin (Darien, CT) had a goal and four assists, while freshman George Grell (Short Hills, NJ) scored a goal and handed out three assists.
Senior face-off specialist Ted Ottens (Wilton, CT) scored his first goal of the season and captured 12-of-16 face-offs, while picking up seven ground balls.
Brown sophomore goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) made nine saves, while allowing four goals in 45 minutes of play.
Ben Martin paced the Big Green with two goals.
Brown out-shot Dartmouth by a 54-33 margin and had a 41-21 advantage in ground balls.
With the score tied, 1-1, early in the opening quarter, Brown reeled off eight straight goals to grab a 9-1 lead at the half. Seven different Brown players scored in the spurt, including two by Panepinto and Hudak.
It was more of the same in the second half as Brown extended its lead to 12 goals, 13-1, on an unassisted goal by Luke McCaleb (Chevy Chase, MD).
George Prince scored for the Big Green at the 6:16 mark of the third quarter to trail, 13-2, and stop Brown's 12-0 run.
Freshman Connor Fox (Boulder, CO) scored his first career goal for the Bears with seven seconds remaining to account for the final score, 20-6.
