
Softball Beats Yale in Game Two, 2-1, in Doubleheader Split

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Brown University softball registered a 2-1 win over Yale University in game two after falling, 5-0, in game one as part of an Ivy League doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at DeWitt Family Stadium.
The Bears (9-23, 3-11 Ivy) took a 2-1 lead after the first inning and did not allow a run over the final six innings in the second contest after the host Bulldogs (9-27, 5-12 Ivy) shutout the visitors in the opener of the three-game series.
In game two, sophomore pitcher Emily Waters (Northridge, Calif.) threw 5.2 innings in the win, freshman Grace Ladd (Boulder, Colo.) picked up her second save of the year, and junior Cat Seitz (Poway, Calif.) plated both of Brown's runs with a two-run single.
Next, Brown concludes the three-game set at Yale with a single game tomorrow, Sunday, Apr. 22, at 12:30 p.m.
Game 1: Yale 5, Brown 0
Junior Sofia Venegas registered a pair of hits, but Brown fell to Yale in game one, 5-0.
The Bears and Bulldogs remained scoreless through three innings before the hosts plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth and added a run in the last of the sixth to take the win.
Venegas (La Mirada, Calif.) led the Bears at the plate with her 2-for-3 effort while sophomores Kaitlin Okimoto (Burbank, Calif.) and Raquel Blanchard (Valencia, Calif.) each posted one hit.
Yale's Francesca Casalino earned the win (3-5), tossing a complete-game shutout and permitting four hits with three strikeouts in the full 7.0 innings. Lindsay Kuss and Sydney Ginsberg each notched two RBIs.
The Bulldogs struck for four runs in the bottom of the fourth beginning with an RBI single from Allison Skinner. Later in the frame, Kuss forced home a run with a walk, and Ginsberg hit a two-run single to left field.
In the home half of the sixth, Kuss lifted an RBI double to left field to give the hosts a 5-0 edge.
Sophomore Emily Waters (Northridge, Calif.) threw 2.2 innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits. Junior Meghan Wimmer (Boothwyn, Pa.) gave up for runs on four hits and four walks over 3.1 innings in the loss (3-9).
Game 2: Brown 2, Yale 1

The Bears plated two runs in the top of the first and held the Bulldogs to one run in the bottom of the first as the two teams played six scoreless innings the rest of the way.
Seitz (Poway, Calif.) plated both of the Bears' runs while junior Annie Scarangella (Tucson, Ariz.) and sophomore Raquel Blanchard (Valencia, Calif.) each finished 2-for-3, including a double for Scarangella.
Waters (Northridge, Calif.) hurled 5.1 innings in the start, allowing just one run on six hits in the win (3-6). Ladd (Boulder, Colo.) tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts in the save (2).
In the top of the first, sophomore Kaitlin Okimoto (Burbank, Calif.) led off the inning with a single before the Bears loaded the bases. After Yale registered a double play to leave runners on second and third with two outs, Seitz sent a two-run single to center field to give Brown a 2-0 edge.
The Bulldogs responded with a run in the last of the first on a single from Carlin Hagmaier, but the visitors did not allow a run over the final six innings.
Ladd posted a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh to help Brown seal the win.
For Yale, Terra Jerpbak pitched a complete game, conceding two unearned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts over 7.0 innings. Sydney Grobman and Olivia Lee each went 2-for-3 with a double.
