
Cornell Takes Early Lead, Beats Brown, 19-5

Ithaca, N.Y. - Sixth-ranked Cornell opened the game with an 11-0 run and cruised to a 19-5 Ivy League men's lacrosse win over Brown Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field.
Cornell improves to 10-3 overall, 4-1 in the Ivy League, and clinches the second seed in the Ivy League Tournament. Brown falls to 5-7, 2-3 in conference play, but remains in Ivy Tournament contention with Harvard's loss to Princeton this afternoon.
Brown freshman Ryan Aughavin (Glen Head, NY) paced the Bears by scoring the first two goals of his career. Senior Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA), junior Jackson Newsome and senior Jake Miller (Heartland, WI) each scored a goal for the Bears.
Sophomore goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) had 15 saves in goal for the Bears after being peppered by 47 shots, as the Big Red out-shot the Bears by a 47-33 margin.
Big Red sophomore Jeff Teat posted another big game with 10 points on two goals and eight assists. Colton Rupp, Jake Mcculloch and Jordan Dowiak scored three goals each. Christian Knight started the game in goal for the Big Red and made eight saves in 45 minutes of play.
Cornell had a 36-30 advantage in groundballs, while Brown had 20 turnovers, 10 that were caused by the Big Red.
The Big Red dominated the opening 25 minutes of the game, keeping the Bears off the scoreboard while building an 11-0 advantage.
Brown got on the scoreboard when Hudak took a feed from sophomore Jack Kniffin (Darien, CT) with 4:01 left in the second quarter. Newsome scored with 59 seconds left to cut the Big Red advantage to 11-2 at the half.
The Bears play their final mid-week game of the season, hosting Bryant on Tuesday, April 24 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. All the action starts at 7:00 pm in a game televised on NESNplus and the Ivy League Network.
