Men's Crew Hosts BU in Season Opener Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's crew will kick off the spring season on Saturday when the Bears host Boston University in the annual battle for the Michalson Cup on the Seakonk River.

BROWN LAST SEASON
Brown put together another standout campaign last season as it finished sixth in the nation at the 2017 IRA National Championships. The Bears reached the grand finals for the ninth-straight straight year and bested its entry seed by two spots in the process. The Bears also finished sixth in the Jim Ten Eyck Memorial Trophy, awarded to the school with the most team points. Before the IRA Championship, Brown placed fifth in team points at the Eastern Sprints, and was one of only three schools to advance five boats to the grand finals.
LAST TIME AGAINST BU
Boston University edged Brown in last year's meeting in Boston to take back the Michalson Cup, 6:02.7 to 6:03.1. Brown had won the previous three meetings between the two schools.
ALUMS BATTLE IN ANNUAL BOAT RACE
Brown crew alums Anders Weiss '15 and Finn Meeks '17 will row against each other in The Boat Race on Saturday in London. Weiss is set to row in the fourth seat for Oxford at this year's event, while Meeks will row in the sixth seat for Cambridge, as the two former teammates battle in one of the most historic events of the sport in front of thousands of spectators along the banks of the River Thames. The race will be broadcast live on BBC1 and streamed live on YouTube. The men's boat race will start at 1:32 PM ET.
