DELAND, Fla. – Freshman Anya Schmitz went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, but Brown University softball fell to Mount St. Mary's 6-3, in its fifth and final game at the Hatter Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Stetson University's Patricia Wilson Field.

Facing a 6-1 deficit entering the sixth inning, the Bears (1-4) rallied for two runs in the last of the sixth before the Mountaineers (3-5) held on for the win.

Schmitz (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and junior Meghan Wimmer (Boothwyn, Pa.) both earned Hatter Invitational All-Tournament Team honors. Over the course of the weekend, Wimmer hit .533 (8-for-15) with a .611 on-base percentage, four doubles, and four RBIs while Schmitz tallied a .500 average (8-for-16) with two doubles.

Against the Mount, junior Cat Seitz (Poway, Calif.) hit a two-run double, and sophomore Raquel Blanchard (Valencia, Calif.) hit an RBI single.

Senior Katie Orona (Pueblo, Colo.) took the loss (0-3), tossing 3.0 innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on two hits and seven walks. Sophomore Emily Waters (Northridge, Calif.) threw 3.0 innings of scoreless relief, and freshman Grace Ladd (Boulder, Colo.) did not allow a hit in 1.0 inning.

For the Mount, Jordan Weaver collected the win (2-0), hurling a complete game 7.0 innings and conceding three runs, all earned, on six hits with three strikeouts. Emilee Kirk drove in two runs, Kaylee Stoner hit a double, and Kirsten Mumma and Morgan Alisauckas each scored twice.

The Mountaineers plated four runs in the top of the first and added a run in the top of the second to pull ahead 5-0. The Mount tacked on another run in the away half of the fourth to gain a 6-0 edge.

Brown responded in the last of the fourth as Blanchard hit a single up the middle to bring home Schmitz. The Bears cut their deficit to 6-3 in the last of the sixth behind a two-run double to left center from Seitz.

Next, Brown plays at the Highlander Classic in Riverside, Calif., from Mar. 2-4. At the tournament, the Bears will take on Stony Brook (Mar. 2, 2:30 p.m. ET), St. Mary's (Mar. 3, 12:00 p.m. ET), Stony Brook (Mar. 3, 2:30 p.m. ET), and UC Riverside (Mar. 4, 2:30 p.m. ET).
