
Men’s Soccer’s Welp Named Scholar All-American

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Gabe Welp (West Chester, Ohio) of the Brown men's soccer team was named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Scholar All-America Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Welp, who was named a Third Team Academic All-American, holds a 3.80 grade-point average and is concentrating in economics. He was also named to the Scholar All-East Region Team as a First Team honoree.
A senior captain, Welp has racked up several postseason accolades as he was previously named Second Team All-Ivy and Second Team All-East Region. He has been a mainstay on the Brown backline over the course of his five-year career. He started all 17 games played in 2018 and paced the team in minutes played, adding one assist.
Welp is one of three Ivy League players to earn Scholar All-American honors, along with Dylan Castanheira (Columbia) and Nicky Downs (Yale).
