BOSTON – Brown University men's crew secured second place in the varsity four as the Bears concluded the 2018 fall season at the Foot of the Charles Regatta Saturday morning on the Charles River in Boston.
"We have seen good leadership throughout the fall season," said Brown head coach Paul Cooke. "While we didn't come through with a win, this was another strong performance. I'm really impressed by the progress we have seen from the top of the squad to the bottom in the last two months. I'm confident the improvements will create even more depth and competitiveness as we prepare for the spring season."
In a competition against Boston-area schools, Brown's A boat was runner-up out of 20 crews in the varsity four, defeating Ivy rival Harvard as the Bears finished behind only Northeastern in a time of 12:56.3. The Brown B boat crossed in sixth at 13:08.5. Brown's two other boats crossed in times of 13:27.8 and 13:40.7.
In the open varsity eight, the Bears battled to a fifth-place showing, crossing the finish line in a time of 12:26.1 against crews from Harvard, Northeastern, MIT and Boston College. The B boat secured a seventh-place finish at 12:49.0, before the third boat finished at 11th in a time of 13:23.2.
