PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton scored a pair of goals in the second half as the Brown men's soccer team fell to the Tigers on the road, 2-0, in Saturday night's Ivy League match at Sherrerd Field.
Brown moved to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the Ivy League. Princeton improved to 5-4-1, 1-0-1.
Rookie keeper James Swomley (Newton, Mass.) made a career high seven saves. Jacob Schachner had three stops for the Tigers.
Swomley turned away three shots in the opening 45 minutes to help keep the game scoreless at halftime.
Princeton scored two goals in the first ten minutes of the second half, starting at 49:44, when Kevin O'Toole sent a ball through traffic at the top of the box for the lead.
After a Swomley save, Gaby Paniagua added a second goal in the 55th minute, when he made his way through the defense and into the box to set up a shot at the back corner for the two-goal advantage.
The Brown offense responded about ten minutes later with a pair of attempts on net, but Schachner denied both Daniel Schiller (Glenview, Ill.) and Rodrigo D'Andrea (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to keep the Bears off the board. Schachner then stopped a penalty kick by Matthew Chow (Vancouver, British Columbia) in the 76th minute to maintain the shutout.
Schiller paced the Bears with three shots.
