
Women’s Hockey Hosts UConn on Tuesday Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will host UConn on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Meehan Auditorium for its third non-conference game. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+.

BROWN TALKING POINTS
Freshman Shay Maloney leads the Bears in scoring with four points, all on assists. The rookie contributed in three of Brown's four goals in Saturday's 4-0 victory at Holy Cross. Freshman Lizzy Gross is right behind Maloney in points with three. The Scarborough, Maine native recorded a hat trick in Saturday's win, her first collegiate points. The Bears' penalty kill unit was strong in their first two contests, fighting off all nine of their infractions. Junior Calla Isaac started both games between the pipes and had a .050 GAA and a .982 save percentage through the two games. Isaac also posted her first career shutout on Saturday with 32 saves.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears swept Holy Cross to open the 2018-19 season with a 3-1 game one win at Meehan Auditorium on Friday, Oct. 19, and a game two 4-0 shutout at the Hart Center on Saturday, Oct. 20. Junior Calla Isaac finished the weekend with 56 saves and logged her first career shutout in the series finale with 32 stops. Freshman Lizzy Gross recorded a hat trick in game two with her first collegiate goals. Rookie Shay Maloney also had a strong opening weekend with four assists, helping out on three of Brown's four goals on Saturday. Senior Bridget Carey (2-0-2), junior Sena Hanson (1-1-2) and sophomore Kaitijane Blumberg (0-2-2) concluded the weekend with multiple points.
ISAAC AND GROSS COLLECT WEEKLY ECAC HONORS
Junior Calla Isaac and freshman Lizzy Gross earned weekly honors from the ECAC on Monday, Oct. 22 in an announcement from the league.
Isaac was named the ECAC Goalie of the Week after she made a total of 56 saves in a series sweep against Holy Cross in the team's opening weekend. She allowed just one goal in the two games versus the Crusaders. Isaac made 24 saves in a 3-1 game one win on Friday, Oct. 19 and came back the following night to post 32 saves for her first-career shutout in a 4-0 victory. Isaac and the Bears shutdown all nine of Holy Cross' power-play opportunities on the weekend.
Gross earned ECAC Rookie of the Week laurels after netting a hat trick in a 4-0 game two win at Holy Cross for her first collegiate points. Gross' scores included a power play and unassisted goal. She finished the weekend with a +4 rating.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn will be playing in their eighth game of the season when they visit Meehan Auditorium, bringing a 4-2-1 overall record. Three players share the squad's point lead with seven. Morgan Wabick has a team-best four goals along with three assists while Briana Colangelo (2-5-7) and Natalie Snodgrass (2-5-7) share the point lead with Wabick. Tristyn Svetek is tied with Colangelo and Snodgrass for the lead in assists with five helpers on the year. Morgan Fisher has started six of UConn's seven games in net and has a 2.15 goals-against average, a .926 save percentage and a 3-2-1 record. Samantha Carpentier-Yelle has a 2.01 GAA and .905 save percentage in one game played. As a team, the Huskies have outscored their opponents 10-6 in the third period while tying their opponents in both the first and second.
THE CAPTAINS
Seniors Bridget Carey and Abby Niewchas will suit up as the Bears' captains for the 2018-19 season while sophomore Abby Nearis will join the two seniors as an assistant captain.
