
Women’s Hockey Takes Series Versus Holy Cross with 4-0 Shutout

WORCESTER, Mass.. - The Brown women's hockey team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 4-0 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday night at the Hart Center. Junior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) posted 32 saves while logging her first-career shutout.
Freshman Lizzy Gross (Scarborough, Maine) recorded a hat trick on her first collegiate tallies while classmate Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) had a hand in three of the Bears' four goals on the night.
Gross opened the game's scoring at 11:15 of the first period with a power-play goal. The rookie weaved around defenders and fired in a shot from the slot. Senior Bridget Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) doubled the Bears' advantage at 17:07 of the frame when she scored her second goal in as many nights, this one coming right off of the faceoff.
Brown outshot Holy Cross 13-8 en route to its two-goal lead. The Bears were 1-for-3 on the power play and killed off their lone infraction.
Gross added her second tally at 4:59 of the second right in front after receiving the pass from Maloney. The Crusaders (0-5-2) would have the upper hand in shots for the second (15-7) but Isaac came up with 15 stops to increase her save total to 23. Brown fought off all three of its penalties in the stanza.
Gross completed the hat trick on an unassisted score at 4:39 of the third to give the Bears a 4-0 lead. Isaac finished out the clean sheet with nine saves in the period.
Brown concluded the third 2-for-2 on the penalty kill to improve to 7-for-7 overall. The Bears ended the night 1-for-3 on the power play, with all of their opportunities coming in the first period.
Brown will next host UConn on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Meehan Auditorium for its third non-conference game. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
