Track & Field Competes at Sorlein Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Brown men's and women's track & field put together several strong performances as both squads competed at the URI Sorlein Invitational on Saturday at Mackal Fieldhouse.
Sophomore May Stern (Providence, R.I.) led the Bears on the track as she won the 400 meters in a time of 56.77.
In the field, junior Uloma Nwaolu (Washington, D.C.) captured first place in the high jump with a cleared height of 5-7, while Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.) claimed the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 40-8.25, sixth all-time at program history.
On the men's side, the Bears racked up four individual victories in the field, as Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) won the weight throw for the second straight week when he topped the field of 24 throwers with a toss of 65-10.5. Sophomore Nigel Despinasse (Baton Rouge, La.) placed first in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 55-1.
Ryan Laudermilk (Riverside, Calif.) won the high jump with a cleared height of 6-8.75 and Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) captured first place in the triple jump at 45-10.
Senior Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) won the pentathlon earlier in the week as she won four of five events en route to 3,816 points.
Brown will travel to the Boston University Terrier Invitational next weekend.
